  • GREEN BAY, Wis. – Subscribing to the notion that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, Green Bay Packers starting cornerback Nate Hobbs had a minor procedure done on his knee, a source told Packers On SI on Monday evening.

    He could return in about three weeks, giving him time to get back in the swing of things for the regular season.

    The procedure was more preventative than anything. Hobbs might have been able to play through it all season with no troubles. But, with Week 1 more than a month away – the Packers will host the Detroit Lions on Sept. 7 – Hobbs and the team opted to take care of things now to ensure he’ll not only be ready for the season but be able to get through the season.

    While he’ll miss practice time and joint practices at the Colts next week and against the Seahawks to wrap up training camp, Hobbs probably wasn’t going to play in the three-game preseason that begins on Saturday night at home against the Jets, anyway.

    • Joe, I think you've been attending camp. What are some standout players, for you? Guys that get your attention, whether it's quickness or playmaking or whatnot.

      Like, does Ty'ron Hopper ever flash anything? Is Omar Brown really looking that good? Stackhouse really stacking up the line? Or other names we've not heard about?

      • LVN has looked consistently good. Wicks was looking very good but then has been hurt. Doubs and Golden seem to be Love's favorite targets. Musgrave has been making plays. Brown was making plays even before Family Night, albeit against 2's and 3's. Nazir Stackhouse has been consistently good. He's probably made the team as an UDFA. He should play a lot in preseason games with Clark likely out. Valentine has been the best of the CB's. Cooper seems to make plays behind the line every practice. Brinson seemed to start slow, but has been coming on .

          Kraft
          Golden - Doubs
          Morgan - Banks - Jenkins - Rhyan - Tom

          Gary - Clark - Wyatt - LVN
          Simmons - Quay - Cooper
          Nixon - Valentine
          Williams - McKinney

          Quay back in team!!!

          @ByRyanWood

          Edgerrin Cooper bursts into the backfield and drops Josh Jacobs for about a 4-yard loss. Shades of last year.
          Andy Herman
          @AndyHermanNFL

          LVN and Gary with would be sacks to open up team reps with the ones.

          Savion Williams an active day already with a nice catch along the sidelines and a couple nice runs.

          About the 100th bad snap of camp but this was one of the very few that happened with the 1s. Jenkins airmailed it.
          Andy Herman
          @AndyHermanNFL

          McDuffie all over an end around to Reed.

          Nice burst on an outside run by Abanikanda

          Jamon Johnson shuts down a check down to Abanikanda
          Andy Herman
          @AndyHermanNFL

          Javon Bullard all over a WR screen to Doubs on a 3rd & 8 play. Entire defense did a good job rallying to the ball.

          McKinney got caught a bit on a 3rd & 8 to Heath. I don’t think he thought Love would throw it there but Love rifled one almost no look at the last minute & fit it in
          Andy Herman
          @AndyHermanNFL

          Good blocking by Kraft & Golden on the outside to help Jacobs pick up a first. All these plays are 3rd & 8.

          Love pressured and misses a checkdown to brooks that wasn’t going anywhere anyway.

          LOVE WITH AN ABSOLUTE DIME TO DOUBS FOR A DEEP POST TD. DOUBS W A BEAUTIFUL CATCH!!!
          Andy Herman
          @AndyHermanNFL

          Not sure if something happened with Aaron Banks - it was Jacob Monk at LG primarily and then Donovan Jennings got a snap at LG w the 1’s on that td pass to Doubs.
          Ryan Wood
          @ByRyanWood

          Kalen King reads screen to Malik Heath before snap, and triggers for PBU a few yards into backfield. Good recognition from the young CB.
          Andy Herman
          @AndyHermanNFL

          Kalen King shot out of a cannon to breakup a pass on a screen to Heath. King was all over that.

          Willis with a dime to Hardman for a really good pickup deep right side.

          Aaron Banks is currently in with the 2’s which is… interesting. More importantly Brant & Aaron are next to each other for an all Banks left side of the line.
          Andy Herman
          @AndyHermanNFL

          Willis late throwing across the field again. No pick this time but Micah Robinson easily breaks up the pass intended for Hicks.

          Savion Williams with a nice block on the outside to spring Chris Brooks for a few yards on a swing pass.

          3rd & 6 upcoming. Defense looks like they had the sack. Incomplete to Savion anyway. Even if it was caught it would have been short.
          Andy Herman
          @AndyHermanNFL

          1st & 10 - Abanikanda run goes nowhere.

          2nd & 10 - Abanikanda run for 4.

          3rd & 6 - screen to Abanikanda for nothing. Well short of the 1st. Great defense.
          Ryan Wood
          @ByRyanWood

          Matthew Golden beats Keisean Nixon for about 20 yards from Jordan Love on an actual dig route. Really smooth separation against Nixon to the middle of the field, and Love hit his rookie in stride.
          Andy Herman
          @AndyHermanNFL

          1st & 10. Love to Jacobs on a checkdown for about 5.

          Jacobs inside run. Gary was all over it but they give the first down.

          Aaron Banks back with the 1’s btw. Wouldn’t read anything into that last series w the 2’s. Looked like a mismatch of players.

          Love to Golden for a nice pickup on a post over the middle. Golden accelerates through the catch point, easy hands catch - big first down.

          Some real juice from Chris Brooks on a nice inside run. Prob the most sauce I’ve seen from him.

          Jordan gets a free play on a hard count - fires downfield for Reed who can’t make the sliding catch. Def a bit under thrown.

          Fake end around to Reed. Defense doesn’t bite. Love throws it away. Looks like they called it a sack.

          Love complete over the middle to Doubs but def prob would have lit him up in a game.

          4th & 2 upcoming for the offense - looks like the defense stuffs a run.

          Of note - no McKinney on that drive. Zayne Anderson came in a the 3rd safety.
          Andy Herman
          @AndyHermanNFL

          Corey Ballentine with a nice pass breakup. He’s been running with the 3’s from what I’ve seen so far.

          Deslin Alexandre makes one big play a day. Nice tfl on a run to his side. He was immediately in the backfield.
          Weston Hodkiewicz
          @WesHod

          McManus good from 51, off left upright on 53R & make 56R. He’s now 41-43
          Andy Herman
          @AndyHermanNFL

          McKinney back with the 1’s in 2 minute. Zayne Anderson in for Williams this time. Lots of rotating today.

          1:00 left. Ball on own 45. 1st and 10. Down 7. 0 timeouts.

          What a fucking throw by Love on an anticipation throw on a deep out to Reed. feet just in. Out of bounds. First down. Wow.

          Throw away by Love on the next play. Right decision there. 2nd down - 48 seconds left.

          Love buys time. Finds Jacobs for the checkdown. 6 yards and out of bounds.

          Love to Musgrave. First down. Out of bounds. Ball on 20 yard line. 36 seconds left.

          Throw away from Love.

          Love throws late across his body deep middle of the end zone. Not sure what he saw. Lands out of bounds barely and harmlessly incomplete.

          Jordan Morgan had two really nice blocks in a row at LT against Sorrell and Enagbare.

          Another throw away from Love. 4th down upcoming. 16 seconds left. Need a TD. Ball still on the 20.

          Love throws to Jacobs at the pylon, might have had a chance but it goes out of bounds and incomplete. Defense wins.
          Andy Herman
          @AndyHermanNFL

          2’s up next in 2 min.

          Willis complete outside to his TE for about 5. Looks like there was a defensive penalty. 1st and 5.

          Willis with a nice back shoulder throw along the sidelines but Hicks locates it late and can’t make the 1 handed catch. Robinson with good coverage.

          Willis deep shot on a post. Complete to Sheppard. Defense completely lost him. Ball on the 15. Clock ticks.

          Willis goes fast and doesn’t see anyone - immediately throws it away.

          Willis buys time but throws it away.

          20 seconds left. Down 7. Ball on 15. 3rd and 10.

          Willis tries Heath but Heath can’t quite get there by the pylon. Heath upset he didn’t get the penalty call against Herring.

          WILLIS TO HARDMAN. TD ON 4th DOWN!!! Gorgeous ball from Willis to Hardman for the td. Hardman beat King easily.

          Going for 2 and the win:

          Willis read option keeper, unreal sidearm throw to Hicks for 2. Huge drive from Willis. His best of camp.
          Andy Herman
          @AndyHermanNFL

          Another 2 minute situation. Down 1. Ball near/at midfield. 15 seconds left. No timeouts. 1st & 10.

          Love complete to Reed for about 15ish.

          Spike.

          McManus drills it.
          Ryan Wood
          @ByRyanWood

          Ten seconds left. Jordan Love scrambling to right, incomplete to Matthew Golden on deep corner against Evan Williams.

          Brandon McManus sent out for a 55R. Low snap, but handled by Daniel Whelan, and McManus splits the uprights again to close practice.

          McManus 44-of-46 in camp.

            • Thanks for the updates and for your own observations, Joe.

              I personally don't mind Hobbs getting that procedure done. Does a vet need much training camp, really? Better to clean it up than have it nagging all season. That, and if he tries to compensate, he changes the dynamics of his knee movement, and then you risk larger injury.

                  Lance Zierlein at NFL.com had him rated a likely 5-6 round pick. Stackhouse has been open about having narcolepsy, which may have scared some people off. He was a 3 year starter at Georgia. His college teammate, Warren Brinson, who the Packers drafted only started 8 games in his career. Brinson had a higher RAS score, is taller with longer arms, so might be seen as a more versatile player. Both should play a lot in preseason.

                    Nixon unreal coverage on Golden down the field in 1x1. Nearly a pick.

                    Reed smokes King.

                    Sims with an absolutely gorgeous route vs McKinney to get open but drops it deep at the end. Right on his hands.

                    Dunn absolutely phenomenal coverage on Heath and a pbu.

                    Lumpkin catches bobbling ball vs Williams who had good overage.

                    Bullard hold on Hardman

                    Valentine pbu on Hobbs. Def got away with contact

                    Nixon once again picture perfect coverage on Golden this time on a go route. Another pbu

                    Swinson catch vs Omar Brown

                    Throw wide to Musgrave who had a step on Zayne

                    Bo shuts down Johnson on the press.

                    Robinson a hold on Sheppard

                    King great coverage on Reed. Overthrown too

                    Doubs with a go vs Valentine and toasts him for a td. Doubs is on a heater.

                    Bo Melton with a pick vs Hicks

                    Hardman smokes Bullard deep for a Td

                    Heath great concentration on a contested catch for a deep td on a go.

                    Sheppard slight step on Robinson deep but overthrown

                    Williams pbu vs Lumpkin. Almost another juggling catch.

                    Swinson beats Baldwin but can’t control the catch falling down.

                    Nixon awesome contest on a slant to Golden but Golden somehow strong hands it for a contested catch.

                    Valentine pbu vs Doubs. These two are absolute must watch.

                    @AaronNagler
                    Outstanding rep from Israel Abanikanda in pass pro drill. Absolutely stoned Cooper. With two backs banged up he should be getting more looks and if he can keep that up in teams could start to make a case.

                    Romeo Doubs torched Carrington Valentine for TD from go route from a Malik Willis. Also drew a DPI on a stop route. On their third rep, Valentine played go route perfectly to force from Jordan Love. Valentine stood over Doubs after the PBU.

                    Sleep on Malik Heath at your own risk. He’s having a really really nice camp. Just skied for a pass over the middle of the field for a completion from Willis off PA.

                    Another day, another play by Stackhouse helping to stuff a run.

                    Cox comes unblocked for a would be sack. Willis fires anyway complete to Sims over the middle.

                    Nice cut by Abanikanda inside for a handful, good run fit by Omar Brown

                    Love check down to Jacobs over the middle. Solid pickup.

                    Kenny Clark all over a toss play to Jacobs. That looked like prime Kenny!

                    Clark/Wyatt/McDuffie stuff a run on the next play as well.

                    Really nice cutback on a run inside by Jacobs. One of those classic Jacobs runs that looks like it should get nothing and it gets 5.

                    Run-heavy work in 11-on-11 so far.

                    Morgan false starts, replaced by Belton.

                    Cooper in Love’s face off play action, forcing throwaway.

                    Heath goes up high & makes a catch for 15 from Willis. Settled in the zone, Melton closest defender.

                    White (35) gets the ball punched out by King. Fitting. (King, #BallKing)

                    Sims up the seam for about 15.

                    Abanikanda getting some work. Enagbare a couple stuffs.

                    Deslin Alexandre with a sack on Elgersma. Dude makes a play every day.

                    Throw away from Love with nothing open then an incompletion off play action and rolling to his right.

                    Lecitus Smith getting center reps for the 3’s after it’s been such a struggle for Jennings & Hill.

                    Love back to back completions to Jacobs & Kraft.

                    Nixon all over an outside screen to Brooks. Nixon is bringing it today!

                    Love all day to throw. Finds Kraft on a shallow crosser for a few.

                    Love to Hardman for a big gain. Slightly low throw but still very catchable. Good anticipation on the throw as well.

                    Barryn Sorrell getting some time inside as a situational pass rusher with the 2s.

                    Clifford incomplete to White on a wheel. Good coverage by Welch.

                    Passed tipped at the line by Cooper on a throw from Willis.

                    Another Willis ball tipped at the line and nearly picked by Williams.

                    @AndyHermanNFL

                    Love gets his ball tipped at the Los but Jacobs still comes up with it. I think we’re in some type up up tempo 2 minute situation. 1’s vs 2’s.

                    Love finds golden underneath who turns it into a bigger gain. Clock ticks.

                    Enagbare and Wooden combine for pressures but Love held the ball a bit too long there. They did give him the throw away tho.

                    Love to Kraft. Nice pickup and out of bounds.

                    Love rolls right and throws downfield. Looked like he had a man but the call it incomplete out of bounds. Didn’t have a clear view of what happened.

                    Red zone coming up:

                    1st and 10 at the 20.

                    1st & 10: 5 yard run by Jacobs

                    2nd & 5: play action complete to Musgrave for maybe 1.

                    3rd & 4: complete to Kraft on a slant vs McKinney for a 1st.

                    1st & goal: Jacobs inside stuffed by Wyatt. Maybe a couple.

                    2nd & goal: Jacobs inside run. Offense thinks TD. Defense disagrees. They call it just short. (I like Jacobs odds of getting in, in a real game).

                    3rd & goal: trips formation to the left. Doubs beats Valentine inside - Love finds him for the TD.

                    • The Green Bay Packers have announced that they have placed their 2024 sixth-round pick, Travis Glover, on the injured reserve today. On Tuesday, Glover was listed as the Packers’ second-string guard on their initial depth chart, and he probably had the inside track to becoming the team’s ninth offensive lineman on the 53-man roster before his shoulder injury. Glover has been held out of practice with that shoulder since before the Packers’ Family Night practice on Saturday.

                      In a corresponding roster move, Green Bay added wide receiver Isaiah Neyor to their 91-man offseason roster. With the addition of Neyor, the Packers are up to 12 receivers in camp, including Christian Watson (knee) and Dontayvion Wicks (calf), who are currently injured and not participating in practice.

                      Neyor played college football for three programs, peaking in 2021 when he earned second-team All-Mountain West honors with Wyoming as a redshirt sophomore after posting 44 receptions for 878 yards and 12 touchdowns. After that season, he transferred to Texas, where he tore his ACL in training camp of 2022, leading to him missing the entire year. In 2023, he saw action in just one game with the Longhorns. In his final season of college football, he played 12 games for Nebraska and recorded 34 receptions for 455 yards and five touchdowns, which seem modest until you realize that his receiving yards numbers were second-best on the team and his receiving touchdown numbers led the team. In an offense where the Cornhuskers threw for fewer than 3,000 yards and only 13 touchdowns, there just weren’t that many opportunities.

                        In other news, Guter appears to have reverted to his (and Ted Thompson's) old third-round ways with his pick of Ty'Ron Hopper. You rarely if ever see him mentioned in these day-by-day reporter's notes, and it seems he's behind Walker, Cooper, Mcduffie, and even Simmons. Hopper better play some mean special teams, or have the light go on right now, cuz he might be in danger of being cut if the team needs an extra body at another position.

                        • I've read some reports that Hopper seems to be reacting better. But on the depth chart he's listed behind McDuffie, so you're not going to hear about him much. I don't expect to see Cooper or Quay much in the preseason games, so Hopper should get a lot of playing time. WE probably won't have a good idea about him until next year.

                              • Cornerback Nate Hobbs won't be the only starter in the Green Bay Packers secondary to miss time during the rest of training camp and the preseason. Safety Xavier McKinney, who missed Thursday's practice with a calf injury, is expecting to miss the preseason because of the injury, per Matt Schneidman of The Athletic.

                                Like Hobbs, who needed a surgery to repair a partially torn meniscus in his knee, McKinney is confident he'll be ready to go when the Packers take on the Detroit Lions in the season opener on Sunday, Sept. 7.

                                "I'll be ready," McKinney said Thursday when asked about Week 1.

                                McKinney said the injury has been "lingering over time."

                                "I'm glad we caught it when we caught it, so trying to take it slow," McKinney said. "But I'll be ready when it's time to go."

                                While the exact injury to McKinney wasn't disclosed, a low-level calf strain can take 2-3 weeks to heal. The Packers likely want McKinney, an All-Pro during his first season in Green Bay, to fully recover from a soft tissue injury before the start of the regular season.
