After that draft I said we got a steal in the 3rd round and the curse was over. I complained that Gutes (as usual) prioritized and unproductive athlete over a complete football player. Gutes looks for players on the final day of the draft and he uncovers gems. But his insistence that he can turn every decathlete into a football player is really getting frustrating. The only time success comes before work is in the dictionary -- Vince Lombardi

I'm also going to give a shout out to a player I was down on last year. I have mentioned it already, but Bullard should NEVER lose another snap to anyone in the slot. He is our guy. He plays the run well. He is the best slot on the team and I don't care how much money we gave Hobbs. The only time success comes before work is in the dictionary -- Vince Lombardi

This.Originally posted by bobblehead View PostPeople will be disappointed that we didn't blow them out, but the Giants haven't really been blown out much despite their record. They played a really inspired game and the new coach had them fired up and at their best.
Yes our OLine needs to gel and get better. Yes we could do a little better against the run. But ponder this. What if we held on to 2 of the 4 picks that we dropped. Then this is a blowout.
PbMax....as for our shocking 5.6 ypc lets call it 4.6 on runs designed to go to RBs. Still pretty solid. We can back out the Melton and the QB runs for a more accurate picture of the "run game". The Giants benefited from playing 4 down football the entire second half and making some timely plays. I'm calling this a "good" win on the road.

If they insist on having Musgrave run the same routes Kraft does he will look terrible. Musgrave has to run routes down the seam as he has poor balance and change of direction skills. BUT he is fast, it seem the coaches do a poor job of putting players in positions to be successful...Originally posted by bobblehead View PostAfter that draft I said we got a steal in the 3rd round and the curse was over. @RobDemovsky
As we reported last night, Josh Jacobs’ knee injury is not major.
Tests today backed that up, a source confirmed. No structural damage and is considered week to week.I can't run no more

Fair adjustment to the Packers ypc. Still not terrible compared to early in the season. Too many missed opportunities but it was better even if it looked like a mess the entire time.Originally posted by bobblehead View PostPeople will be disappointed that we didn't blow them out, but the Giants haven't really been blown out much despite their record. The word for the offense too often is disjointed.
I am also worried about that Defense in an even or trailing game against a good foe. You can't play Cover 3 zone underneath and let the opponent eat clock like that unless your Offense is lightning fast and scoring.
The offense got its red zone figured out but lightning quick it isn't AND it seems to have too many drives end before the red zone.
But I'll take the signs of life guardedly as the Giants aren't a monster team but they are probably better than their record. 24th in DVOA isn't exactly a stern test though. The Lions played the Eagles pretty evenly even as their offense deconstructed. Lions are 4th and Eagles are 6th in DVOA.Bud Adams told me the franchise he admired the most was the Kansas City Chiefs. Then he asked for more hookers and blow.

Well, my biggest gripe was I didn't think he was going to be a good safety. I think I was mostly right on that. I just didn't realize how good of a slot he could become and his safety like tackling is a huge plus.Originally posted by George Cumby View PostGlad to hear we are on the same page on 20, finally.

I have more faith in Hafley making adjustments than I did Barry, although for all the negativity, Barry's playoff games weren't tire fires.....it makes his regular season games all the more confusing.Originally posted by pbmax View PostFair adjustment to the Packers ypc. I became a pessamist - to the very limited extent that I am - when the crappy play of this year's team merited it. Even in most of the wins, they haven't looked as good as they should.Originally posted by Anti-Polar Bear View PostThanks for the review. I overslept and missed the damn game. Looks like Peerless Parsons had 1.5 sacks. Looks like he had a nice game.
Btw, Tex, when in hell did you become a pessimist? Every Sunday is getting more bleak - a fresh poison each week.
I think Parson's only "1" sack of his 1.5 came on the last play/hail mary where he chased Winston and caught his arm, causing a fumble rather than a pass as the clock ran out. All day long, he was getting close but not quite getting that immobile QB. This ain't horseshoes or hand grenades. When we got Parsons, optimist that I usually am, I was thinking he was as good or better than Myles Garrett. But no, Parsons seems to be speed but very little power, and as I said, a lot of "almost" - practically never actually getting there. And most of the time, that's the way it is with the Packers pass rush in general, close but not quite getting there. That along with the crap we have for DBs is a bad combination. The offense gets a fairly well deserved bad rap, but a large part of the reason for that is so few possessions - just 7 in each of the last two games. Supposedly 10 or 11 is normal or average, because the D can't get off the field.
I see Nixon had a pretty good rating on that PFF. That to me just highlights the bogusness of PFF. Nixon was getting beat all over the field, and it seemed like they were actually picking on him, knowing he couldn't cover. He did make a hard hit or two and at least one breakup, but even on those, he was beat in coverage - the receivers were open. What could be more GOOD and NORMAL and AMERICAN than Packer Football?

While sacks get players paid, they aren’t the whole she-bang. Pressure and coverage are also parts of the equation. Plus, offensives are able to counteract sacks/sackmasters with quick throws and double teams.Originally posted by texaspackerbacker View PostI became a pessamist - to the very limited extent that I am - when the crappy play of this year's team merited it. If Parsons is getting alotta “almost sacks,” then he must be getting alotta pressures on the QB, which means he forcing QBs to ejaculate, err, get rid of the rock prematurely. Apparently, and I agree with you on this, the Packers don’t to have anyone with above average coverage kung fu in their DBs and linebackers. There’s no shutdown corner or Urlacher on the roster.

Ok, I just finished watching the condensed version of this game. Off the top of my head:
Williams is so Jekyll and Hyde. Reeks of the infamous Micah Hyde. Gives up big plays, misses tackles, but also makes big plays.
Why the fuck was 58 on the field in the clutch? He sucks. Where the fuck was Quay Walker?
Gary Lightbody MIA?
No love for the Irish punter? Made the damn “dagger” with his last punt. That was a Jon Ryan “beaut.”
What’s with the drops? DBs dropped plenty of Larry Brown picks, you know, gift picks threw right at them. Receivers, including Watson, couldn’t catch a cold standing naked on Antarctica with the mighty Emperor Penguins.
Might be time to cease the “spread the love” amore in the passing game and start making Watson the top target. Then again, Watson is so fragile, I reckon, he would break like Humpty Dumpty with increased targets.
I miss the mischievous redneck, Tuck Kraft. Musgrave can’t hold Kraft’s jockstrap.
Good win.I don’t want a battle from beginning to end

Quay suffered a stinger. But when that happens, I think Hopper has to play more and McDuffie less.Originally posted by Anti-Polar Bear View PostOk, I just finished watching the condensed version of this game. Off the top of my head:

On this play I thought at first it was a bad throw by Love, behind Watson. But actually it had to be thrown behind or the Mike might have had it. Nice throw, and nice catch by Watson. https://x.com/i/status/1990480094947684537I can't run no more
