What was invested in him is irrelevant. He really hasn't produced much in 3 years, so the only case that can be made for keeping him is what the staff sees in him. Maybe there's something there, but I'd say no from what I've seen.

Yay. I don't think you can afford NOT to do it. He's still very young, and you've invested a lot of time and money and effort into developing this guy. You can't let him walk away after this year. According to the ACME article, 10 million is the going rate for a backup EDGE (Enagbare was the example), so why wouldn't you pay 13 million for a guy who will be a starter at the minimum and has a reasonable chance to have a breakout year?

Nay. I wish you could wait until the end of the year to make the decision,

Yikes, it's that time for LVN already? Feels like they just drafted him. My guess is Packers don't option him.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Green Bay Packers have extended slot receiver Jayden Reed to a three-year deal worth $50.25 million in new money and $20 million in guarantees. This comes off an offseason where the Packers allowed Romeo Doubs to hit the open market and sign with the New England Patriots in free agency, plus Green Bay sent away Dontayvion Wicks’ expiring contract to the Philadelphia Eagles in a trade.

For what it’s worth, Doubs signed for $17 million per year, while Wicks got a one-year, $12.5 million extension. Reed will make just under Doubs at $16.75 million, good for the 29th average per year number at the position. This puts Reed in the mid-WR2 to high-WR3 range, which makes sense considering he’s the team’s primary slot receiver.

I'm starting to long for TT. But sort of a combo deal. I think the way GMs are using way too much cap on 2-3 salaries the only way to win the big game is to hit pay dirt in the draft with multiple rookie deals contributing bigly at once. Of course our GM wants to draft athletes, play them out of position, coach them up and have them contribute just in time to pay them. I have almost as little faith in the Gutes as I do in Horst...but at least we have a good coach in GB.

You’re an English professor. Am I using metaphors correctly?

What I am barking about is, no one is denying that Lawrence a better defensive tackle than “Hustling” Heflin. But the talent gap between the “fats” - offensive linemen or chubby defensive linemen, is not as widespread as that of edge rushers, corners, or QBs, etc. Enabre can’t hold Parsons’ jockstrap as a pass rusher. Heflin narrows the gap on Lawrence via hustling alone.

Thus, it’s stupid to draft a fat guy with a high draft pick. Clark, Raji, Harrell, Morgan, Belton, etc., all dumb picks.

Trading a high draft pick, especially a top 10 pick, for a Yokozuna is dumber than Vrabel hanging out by the pool with Russini.

The kung fu (skillz) between Lawrence and, say, Hustling Jack Heflin ain’t as Wu-Tang (material) as that of, say, Micah Parsons and Kingsley Enabre. Point being, coulda used the 10th pick on a poetic “edge” and still gotten a solid D-Yokozuna in the 6th round.
