Those of you who want Halfley gone should read Justis Mosqueda. If he goes, the Packers will - because they historically don't pay coaches well, especially assistants - promote Covington or Ainsley to DC, and all the lower level coaches will just be moved up, and they'll fill the empty position created by all this with an intern who's been getting coffee for the assistant to the assistant linebackers coach.

Packers had the least-experienced assistant coaches of all the playoff teams. By a lot. Read Mosqueda on this. And it showed. The offensive line couldn't pick up the blitzes. Linebackers got scorched in the passing game. The "little" things that are the big things.
Actually the Packers last few DC's (Hafley, Barry, Pettine, Capers) were outside hires. They have had several inside hires at OC. (Stenavich, Philbin, Bennett). And many inside hires at position coaches.

Losing the pass rush with the losses of Wyatt and Parsons exposed the weakest pair of starting corners we've seen here. Hobbs contributed nothing. Gute has done some good things here, but his work on the CB room was a huge swing and a miss.
So excuses? I'm not buying the weakest pair of corners. First off you HAVE to look 3 deep. We have trotted out some pretty bad combos in recent history. I'm just not buying we have a lack of talent on defense and Hafley is brilliant but Barry had massive talent to work with and sucked. Look at the EDGE room Hafley has and his off ball LBs are much better.

Again, not sure this holds water. MiLF and Hafley chose their assistants. I hadn't heard anywhere that they couldn't get the guys they wanted. Bisaccia was supposed to be a genius and was paid just fine. Hafley gave up the top job at BC. If we underpaid Hafley and the theory is we can't get anyone good, then why is Hafley getting all the HC love??

MiLF chooses the offensive staff for sure. Why wouldn't he promote from within (and he is the OC, lets be honest). Why would he say, "gee, my assistants aren't good, I did a shit job picking. What I really need to do is hire the OL coach from another team to be my OC".

The Packers have routinely hired cheap, then reacted (especially on defense) by going outside and spending money to fix problems. They asked LaFleur to keep Pettine so they didn't have to payout the last year of those coaches salary. Then they jettisoned him and let LaFleur go outside the firm.

The FO gets involved in each assistant decision, its been covered before. They also negotiate the contracts, the coach can't offer a guarantee of a deal. That is how they lost Rizzi when LaFleur convinced him to come to GB. Mosqueda says that story, the absolute waste of time and borderline unprofessional conduct, has been brought up to him by multiple coaches agents since it happened.

That has happened. And its still happening on the offensive side.

Their real problem has been at the non-coordinator level, the true assistant coaches. So, what does the team’s true assistant pool experience (playoff games experience) match up compared to the other playoff teams?

              Here’s the big one:

              Seattle Seahawks: 119 years
              Carolina Panthers: 117
              Chicago Bears: 97
              Buffalo Bills: 93
              Jacksonville Jaguars: 89
              San Francisco 49ers: 86
              New England Patriots: 74
              Los Angeles Chargers: 71
              Denver Broncos: 60
              Houston Texans: 58
              Los Angeles Rams: 49
              Philadelphia Eagles: 48
              Pittsburgh Steelers: 48
              Green Bay Packers: 21

Is there any wonder why the Packers might be outcoached in the second half of a playoff game?

I really think Mosqueda is onto something here.

I thought Pettine was DC for 2 years under MiLF. And I find it hard to believe MiLF would agree to that unless its what he wanted. It would be almost unprecedented to handicap him with the previous coaches guy.

Tell me the payroll. Thats the discussion here. Not that we went young and inexperienced. Plus it can speak to continuity as much as talent.

But also it begs the question.....why is Hafley in demand?

                        Agreed.

Good defensive coordinator, but HC after just two seasons? Especially after this epic fail?

                        IDK.

I want him to stay because I think he will make hay with a healthy Parsons, Wyatt and improved corner room.
