    Perhaps.

We have the 2nd worst points of any turnover in the league. This team, under Hafley, were ball hungry until mid/late last season. And it’s never returned.

I’d like to keep him / but won’t care too much if he gets a HC role either.

I'm hoping somehow he stays. They haven't had someone this good since Capers first couple of years. And they would have to open their wallet to replace him with a quality candidate, which I don't trust them to do even though they recently have upped defensive coach targets and salaries.

And the only reason they weren't dead last is because the Jets somehow managed to have zero interceptions for the entire 17 game season.

At this point, I wouldn't mind someone else come in and replace Hafley's over-glorified prevent defense.

I think most DC's would be prevent-oriented with what the Packers have at CB.

It's weird how there's a lot of talk about weather and wind and yet, in OT of the reg. season game at Chicago, somehow the wind didn't seem to affect the final deep bomb. Maybe Chicago winds are biased.

Its the defense LaFleur and the team wanted installed. Its not likely to change given that Hafley made it work.

In fact, as of now, I'd bet on internal promotion before we see another system walk in the door.

                Random thoughts:

First, I heard Joemailman's name mentioned on a podcast! I think it was Aaron Nagler's. Joe asked a question about . . . I forget.

Secondly, listening to Justis Mosqueda ranting on a podcast about how the Packers are notoriously cheap in paying coaches was eye-opening. Basically, his view is that A) the Packers have been cheap for years and years about paying coaches, B) This is becoming more crucial because other teams with owners who have bottomless pockets are using private equity to finance their "rainy day funds," and to afford larger payrolls, which means C) the Packers as a publicly-owned team can't keep up with that, and D) that's the real holdup with extending The Flower and also means that if Halfley leaves, they'll promote either Covington or Derrick Ansley to DC and use cheap internal promotions to backfill coaching positions for those who leave (he's assuming whichever guy isn't promoted to DC will go with Halfley as his DC).

It's depressing as hell. It's actually a huge issue that has to do with how the Packers, as an NFL team, can possibly keep up with the multi-billionaire owners who buy teams to be in "the club" and have endless supplies of cash to fund the operations. Which of course does not stop them from threatening to move their NFL teams if they don't get taxpayer-funded help to build their new stadiums.

Finally, on an only slightly less depressing note, I've noticed that we Rats have been posting a lot in the free agency/offseason and Black Monday threads, with only four pages devoted to the actual game today. This suggests to me that the majority of us Rats subconsciously are turning toward the offseason already because we don't think the Pack will win today.

I'll actually be in Chicago watching the game on TV with my youngest daughter (I brought her up a Packer fan) and her spouse (a Bears' fan from Chicago). Someone will be unhappy going to bed tonight; I hope it's not me. Selfish bastard that I am.

Ian Rapoport reported Saturday morning that LaFleur and the Packers plan to engage in contract talks shortly after the campaign comes to an end.
"Packers plan to discuss his future sooner rather than later. And it looks like he'll be sticking around for the foreseeable future.

However, "Sources told Rapoport that LaFleur isn't coaching for his job in the wild-card game against the Bears.
"Green Bay likes LaFleur, respects him, and believes he's a great fit both in the organization and in the community.
If everything goes well, the hope is that remains for a long time," Rapoport wrote.

I want one of the "failed" former head coaches like Schwartz or Fanzio. Call Rex Ryan again. Or maybe Jim Leonhard still.

Nope. Apparently the only reason they didn't extend Guter already is that they didn't want to create uncertainty about The Flower by extending Guter and not the head coach. From everything I've read, they're both wanted back in GB. Sorry, Bobble. I do wish they could steal Schneider back. In fact, I read that when Pete Carroll was pushed out in Seattle, he convnced them not to fire Schneider too. Pete Carroll, still fucking us over.

                            Schneider > Gute, IMHO.
