  • Nutz,

Do you want a finalized draft board from me? I've updated my draftboard quite a bit. It should be finalized this afternoon.

That reeks of bureaucracy, my favourite thing in the whole world to hate - right after pedophiles!

When will you people finally understand, we have a future franchise to run. If we don't perform, New Mexico will face the drear of NBA and NBL for centuries to come. A whole state of the Union is flaying itself upon you "Don't let Puerto Ric beat us again"

                  And, you do nothing....

                          GENERAL OBSERVATION:

I believe you are over-valuing some of the QBs at the end of the draft. You have guys like Nealy, Martin, Olson, etc. with a 5th round value. Not one of those guys was mocked to go before the 6th round in any of the trustworthy mocks that I based some of my value board on. Other guys like Betts, Porter, and Smith you have 6th round grades on, and none of those guys went before the 7th round in any mock that I saw. I know it's hard to tweak a value board. I had like 40-45 guys valued in each round, so I had to go back through my value board and make sure I wasn't overstuffing the value board.

                          PLAYER EVALUATIONS

I have Young rated higher, but I can't quarrel with anybody who has Leinart higher.

I'm glad you aren't as high on Brodie Croyle as some others. Personally, I like Charlie Whitehurst more than Kellen Clemens, but they are close, and I like them both more than Croyle.

We both like Reggie McNeal and Tarvaris Jackson more than most.

We both appear to like Nealy as a sleeper.

The one change I would make is that I'd drop Darrell Hackney a bit. All of the trustworthy boards have him #8-12 at QB. You have him at the high end of that (#8), and I have him at the low end of that (#11)--with a much lower value. He has a great arm, but I don't like QBs that are under 6' tall.

Erik Meyer is a sleeper that I like. He's a little short, but he's a good athlete with a good arm.

                          Darrell Hackney
                          QB | (5'11", 239, 4.83) | ALABAMA BIRMINGHAM

Overall: Hackney is a thickly built quarterback with adequate arm strength and above average athletic ability. However, his marginal size and history of durability issues are major red flags as a pro prospect. He also has much room to improve in terms of his passing mechanics and overall consistency. Hackney really struggled during the post-season process (Senior Bowl and NFL Combine, where his size proved to be comparatively marginal and his erratic passing woes stood out. Look for Hackney to slip to the final few rounds of this year's draft, as a result.

                          Erik Meyer
                          QB | (6'1", 210, 4.7) | EASTERN WASHINGTON

Overall: As a senior in 2005, he completed 65.5-percent of his throws for 4,003 yards, 30 touchdowns and five interceptions. He also ran for 221 yards on 92 carries. The level of competition (DI-AA) Meyer competed on in college certainly raises concerns. He also lacks prototypical size. However, he is an efficient passer with the arm strength to make all the NFL throws and the ability to buy extra time in the pocket due to his quick feet and presence. Meyer shows enough upside to work with as a late-round project in the 2006 class and his best fit would be in a West Coast offensive scheme.

I don't really have an argument against your board. I'm not that big on all of the little backs in this draft that are destined be third down backs in the NFL. That's why I like Norwood, Bell, and Lundy. You like them as well, so our boards are rather similar here also.

The only guy that I think is a little under-valued on most boards is Jerious Norwood. He doesn't have ideal size, but he's actually one of the bigger RBs in this draft (it's a small crop) after the first 5, runs a 4.33 40, and was highly productive in college.

                                GENERAL OBSERVATION:

Unlike QB, I think you are under-valuing this position. The class is weak at the top, but I think there will be more 2nd and 3rd round picks than you have graded, and I think there will be more wideouts in general that will be picked.

                                PLAYER EVALUATIONS:

I like Chad Jackson more than Santonio Holmes, but I can't argue against having Holmes higher.

Martin Nance - I actually have him higher than average on my board at #16 (the average rank for him is 19.6), but man you went way higher. I think that's too high for him--although he is intriguing. Same with Hank Baskett. I like him more than most, but not quite that high.

I'm assuming you just missed Sinorice Moss.

A couple of guys that I'll point out that I like a lot more than you do, Brandon Marshall and Todd Watkins.

                                Brandon Marshall
                                WR | (6'4", 229, 4.56) | CENTRAL FLORIDA

Overall: Marshall caught 74 passes for a total of 1,195 yards and 11 touchdowns. Marshall possesses a good blend of size, power and athletic ability. However, he isn't fast enough to consistently beat corners over the top and he lacks the burst to regularly get open underneath. He catches the ball well but he is going to have problems separating from defenders in the NFL as easily as he did at the collegiate level. In our opinion, Marshall can develop into a mismatch as a sub-package possession receiver in the NFL if he is coached well and continues to improve his route running skills. Marshall is a bit of a "sleeper" right now but look for him to come off the board in the fourth-to-fifth round range of the 2006 draft.

                                Brandon Marshall
                                Height: 6-4 1/2 | Weight: 229 | 40-Time: 4.55

                                Strengths:
Has outstanding size with a big frame and knows how to use it...A great natural athlete...Excellent body control and ball skills...Has good hands...Is very tough & physical...Works well across the middle and in traffic...Can create after the catch.

                                Weaknesses:
Pure speed is only average...Not very quick or explosive...Somewhat of a long strider...Is not a great route runner...Not known to be a hard worker...Has some character / maturity issues and was even suspended at one point in college.

                                Notes:
Moved from wide receiver to safety in 2004 and then made the switch back the following spring...Gave his stock a huge boost by catching 11 for 210 and 3 touchdowns in the Golden Knights Sheraton Hawaii Bowl loss and then also starring in the Hula Bowl all-star game...Intriguing prospect who is on the rise.

                                Todd Watkins
                                WR | (6'2", 202, 4.44) | BYU

Overall: Watkins has a great combination of height, speed and leaping ability, making him a potential vertical threat in the NFL. He shares a lot of similarities with Ashley Lelie (Broncos) when Lelie was at a similar stage of development at Hawaii. Much like Lelie, Watkins must continue to improve his bulk, strength and consistency as a short-to-intermediate route runner. He make take longer to develop in the NFL than most prospects, but he shows enough potential to gamble on in the fourth-round range of the 2006 draft.
"There's a lot of interest in the draft. It's great. But quite frankly, most of the people that are commenting on it don't know anything about what they are talking about."--Ted Thompson
