    19 Bristol Olomua, FA
    20 Daniel Fells, FA

Not much of a difference--although I like Fasano and Klopfenstein better than Byrd. I know Byrd has great hands, but he is a little short and has only average speed. We both like Scheffler more than most.

    Anthony Fasano
    TE | (6'4", 259, 4.71) | NOTRE DAME

Overall: Fasano lacks explosive speed, which limits his NFL potential as a seam-stretching receiver. He needs to add some bulk in order to better match up at the next level as an in-line blocker. He also comes with a little bit of baggage in terms of the fumbling and durability issues. However, Fasano possesses the frame to continue to get bigger and he shows the technique and toughness to develop into an efficient all-around blocker. Fasano also has the mobility, quickness, hands and instincts to emerge as a reliable short-to-intermediate weapon in the passing game. Simply put; Fasano is a very good prospect at the tight end position but he's a step down from the elite class. As a result, we feel that Fasano will be a bit of a reach in the first round of the 2006 draft but that he absolutely warrants second round consideration.

    Joe Klopfenstein
    TE | (6'5", 255, 4.65) | COLORADO

Overall: Klopfenstein is a fast-rising tight end prospect that greatly improved his draft stock with an impressive senior campaign in 2005. He still needs to improve his bulk and lower body strength. Klopfenstein also lacks consistency as a run blocker and will always have some limitations in that area. However, he has a great frame and continues to get bigger. Most importantly, he is an impressive athlete with the speed and hands to stretch the field vertically as an H-back type in the NFL. Klopfenstein has secured a spot on Day 1 of the 2006 draft and he could come off the board as high as the second round after impressive performances in post-season (Senior Bowl and NFL Scouting Combine).

    Dominique Byrd
    TE | (6'2", 255, 4.8) | USC

Overall: Byrd is a dynamic playmaker with the potential to develop into a seam-stretching H-back type in the NFL. He is one of the best athletes at the tight end position in this year's class at the tight end position and he flashes terrific upside. However, he still needs to improve his bulk, strength and overall effectiveness as a blocker. He also has had some durability and academic issues that could cause him to slip on draft day. As it stands right now, Byrd grades out as a second round prospect in a talent-deep class of tight ends in the 2006 draft.

    Tony Scheffler
    TE | (6'5", 254, 4.6) | WESTERN MICHIGAN

Overall: Scheffler was one of the most productive pass-catching tight ends in college football as a senior in 2005, when he finished with 57 receptions for 670 yards and nine touchdowns. Scheffler was also the starting left fielder for Western Michigan's baseball team. Scheffler is one of the most underrated prospects in the 2006 draft class. He was a late-bloomer that struggled early in his career due to some durability issues and the fact that he spent the majority of his off-season time playing baseball for Western Michigan. However, Scheffler was a highly productive receiver at the mid-major DI-A collegiate level during his final two seasons and since focusing solely on football, he has made enormous strides as an NFL draft prospect. He has a big frame to add bulk and he showcased his excellent speed and athletic ability with an outstanding showing at the combine. In our opinion, Scheffler warrants consideration early on Day 2 of the draft.

Not a lot of difference at the top. I have Winston ahead of McNeill and I like Whitworth more than Scott.

I think you have Sowells rated too high. He's #15 on my OT board. He'll likely play OG on the pro level. I think you are selling Rob Sims a little short. I like Lutui more than Giles and Spencer for our scheme, but they are pretty close.

I don't like Ryan Cook. He's just too slow for our scheme. I like Eslinger a lot, and I like Chester even more. I think Patrick Ross fits our scheme more than Cook. Cook ran a 5.5 40. He doesn't have good movement skills at all. Chester is an incredible athlete. He ran a 40 in the 4.8s. Ross ran his in the 4.9s, and I think he could be a Dan Koppen type player.

Small differences. I'm not a big fan of Elvis Dumervil. I don't know too many 5'11" 257 pound DE that are making an impact on the pro level.

Wyche is probably my sleeper, but you have him pretty high also. He's 6'5" 262 with the frame to get bigger, and he ran a 4.63 40. He's been an a little bit of an underachiever, but the measurables are worth taking a chance on in the 4th or 5th round. There's such a dearth of DEs that stand out in this draft that I like Wyche, Kudla, and LaCasse. They are guys that are pretty quick with decent size and the frame to get bigger.

I'm assuming you dropped Wroten because of his off-the-field problems? He could be this year's Anntaj Hawthorne, so that's valid, but I'd still take a chance on him as a top 9 DT, at least. I had him ranked #3 before the issues. I dropped him to #5 because of them.

                2 Ernie Sims, Mid 1st
                3 Chad Greenway, Mid 1st
                4 Bobby Carpenter, Late 1st
                5 Manny Lawson, Mid 1st
                6 Kamerion Wimbley, Mid 1st

                8 Thomas Howard, Mid 2nd
                9 Roger McIntosh, Mid 2nd
                10 Jon Alston, Late 2nd
                11 Clint Ingram, Mid 3rd
                12 James Anderson, Late 3rd
                13 Brandon Johnson, Late 3rd
                14 Brian Iwuh, Mid 4th
                15 Jamar Williams, Late 4th
                16 AJ Nicholson, Mid 5th
                17 Keith Ellison, Late 5th
                18 Spencer Havner, Late 5th
                19 Omar Gaither, Mid 6th
                20 Stephen Tulloch, Mid 6th
                21 Terna Nande, Mid 6th
                22 Travis Williams, Late 6th
                23 William Kershaw, Early 7th
                24 Kevin Simon, Mid 7th
                25 Anthony Trucks, 7th-FA
                26 Will Derting, 7th-FA
                27 Pierre Woods, 7th-FA
                28 Paul Walkenhorst, FA
                29 Ladrelle Bryant, FA

I actually like Greenway as much or more than Sims, but I didn't have the nutz to rank him higher. Six out of the 7 draftboards I referenced had Sims higher. The concussions worry me. I think you are overrating Spencer Havner for our scheme. He's pretty slow. Same with A.J. Nicholson.

There are three intriguing speed LBs that I like in the later rounds: James Anderson, Brandon Johnson, and Jamar Williams.

                James Anderson
                OLB | (6'3", 229, 4.58) | VIRGINIA TECH

Overall: Anderson is a WLB prospect that made huge strides throughout his final two collegiate seasons (2004-'05), which were his only as a starter. He lacks ideal size and still has room to improve in terms of his recognition skills and awareness both in run support and in coverage. However, Anderson is a great athlete with outstanding speed and the frame to improve his bulk. He will need at least one season before he is ready to compete for consistent playing time at WLB in the NFL, but Anderson should be able to contribute on sub packages and on special teams immediately. In our opinion, Anderson is an intriguing late Day 1 prospect with a good deal of upside.

                Brandon Johnson
                OLB | (6'4", 228, 4.47) | LOUISVILLE

Overall: Johnson's lack of bulk is reason for concern and he will have problems stopping the run until he gets stronger at the point of attack. However, he has the frame to add weight and he has the combination of athletic ability, instincts and speed to develop into a playmaker as an OLB and as a cover guy on special teams. Johnson projects as a fourth or fifth round pick in 2006.

                Jamar Williams
                Height: 6-0 1/4 | Weight: 236 | 40-Time: 4.62

                Strengths:
Smart and has outstanding football instincts...Has solid speed...Powerful and an explosive hitter...Displays good strength...Has a good motor and is all over the field...Very productive and experienced...Team leader with top-notch intangibles.

                Weaknesses:
Does not have the ideal height you look for...Is not very quick or agile...Can be too aggressive at times...Lacks discipline and will tend to take himself out of plays...Struggles in coverage...Might only be a situational player in the pros.

                Notes:
A three-year starter...Doesn't have all the physical tools you'd prefer but it's the stuff you can't measure that makes him what he is...While he may never be a star this guy is not the type you should doubt...At worst a backup and special teamer.

                  3 Gerris Wilkinson, Mid 2nd
                  4 Leon Williams, Late 3rd
                  5 Tim Dobbins, Early 4th
                  6 Freddie Keiaho, Late 4th
                  7 Dale Robinson, Mid 5th
                  8 Tim McGarigle, Mid 5th

                  11 Freddie Roach, Early 7th
                  12 Cameron Vaughn, Mid 7th
                  13 Oliver Hoyte, 7th-FA
                  14 Trent Bray, 7th-FA
                  15 Justin London, FA

You don't have Freddie Keiaho on your board. I don't like Kai Parham much for our team. He can't run. The dude ran a 5.03 40 at the combine. You don't have Dale Robinson ranked either. He's the consensus 7th pick at ILB, but I don't like him much. Like Parham, he's extremely slow. I can't quibble with Hodge over Jackson. To me, they are nearly identical as prospects. Jackson beat Hodge in 5 of the 7 boards I reference.

                  Freddie Keiaho
                  ILB | (5'11", 224, 4.65) | SAN DIEGO STATE

Overall: Keiaho lacks size, he has some minor durability concerns and his technique as a linebacker will need polishing in the NFL. However, he has great speed at the linebacker position and he is an aggressive, powerful tackler for his size. Keiaho likely will never emerge as a fulltime contributor on defense, but he shows potential to develop into a versatile backup at the "Mike" and "Will" linebacker positions. He also has great experience as a special teams' contributor and shows enough upside to contribute in that area at the NFL level. Expect Keiaho to come off the 2006 draft board at some point during the early portions of Day 2.

                    39 Tramon Williams, FA
                    40 Kevin Stanley, FA

I like Williams and Cromartie more than Hill--mainly because Hill is short. I'm glad to see a super sleeper, Eric Bassey, on your board. Dude is 6' tall and ran a 4.33 40. He's worth taking at some point late. I like David Pittman a little more than you. He's an intriguing small school prospect. Josh Lay is another guy I like because he has a nice size/speed combination.

                    Josh Lay
                    CB | (6'0", 197, 4.47) | PITTSBURGH

Overall: Lay is a tall cover corner with surprisingly fluid hips and smooth athleticism. He has the size, instincts, athleticism and just enough speed to develop into a sub-package contributor at the cornerback position in the NFL. He also could emerge as a good fit in a cover-2 type scheme, but he must get stronger and develop his overall tackling skills. Lay is not the toughest of cornerbacks, he lacks elite speed and he has some durability issues, which will cause him to slip on draft weekend. In our opinion, Lay is warrants consideration in the middle rounds of the 2006 draft.

                      S | (6'1", 209, 4.67) | MICHIGAN STATE

Strengths: Possesses adequate size, is physical at the point of attack and line up in the box. Reads keys quickly, is aggressive and excels in run support. Takes good pursuit angles, plays with a good motor and always seems to be around the ball at the end of the play. Plays under control in space, squares up to the ball carrier and is a sound open field tackler. Shows good burst coming out of cuts, can change directions quickly and has good short-area man-to-man cover skills. Shows good closing speed, times hits well and can be an intimidating presence over the middle. Has good speed and is relentless in pursuit so has the potential to develop into a productive special teams' player.

Weaknesses: While he has good range and covers a lot of ground, he doesn't show great instincts in zone coverage, bites on play fakes and gets caught out of position at times. Lacks ideal ball skills and isn't a playmaker in coverage. Received a medical red-shirt and he missed the entire season after tearing the meniscus in his left knee in 2001, missed two games with a sprained knee in 2002, didn't participate in 2003 spring practice because he was recovering from knee surgery, has had shoulder problems and durability is a substantial concern.

                              • First-round material?
<Apr. 28> Daniel Bullocks has an outside shot of getting into the first round. The former Nebraska safety is on the Bengals' radar screen and there are some in Pittsburgh who would like him to be the Steelers' first-round choice. Bullocks' brother, Josh, was a second-round pick of the Saints last year.
