  • Ahh...the germ! As Ogden Nash once wrote:

A mighty creature is the germ,
    Though smaller than the pachyderm.
    His customary dwelling place
Is deep within the human race.
His childish pride he often pleases
    By giving people strange diseases.
Do you, my poppet, feel infirm?
    You probably contain a germ.

Actually, dear, I feel fine. I'm just a bit leaky in the nasal passages at the moment...And Zicam is medicine of the gods...

Bad News: Track meets last 5-7 hours...I'll be using lots of vacation time.

You have to re-calibrate. When it is 40 degrees and raining sideways it will be okay to let the big yellow bus head out of town without you. If your son is like my son you can hear all about it when he gets home:

papa swede: How did you do?

              swede jr: Aight.

papa swede: How did you do in the 55?

              swede jr: Second.

              papa swede: Time?

swede jr: Chill, brah...it was a track meet. I'm not going up to the table to ask for my time like some feeb. The coach will tell me tomorrow at practice.

              (pause)

papa swede: How did you do in the triple?

              swede jr: Aight.

                    Hey, yeah! What gives?

Maybe their school does summer baseball, but I didn't think too many schools did that anymore.

I had a similar conversation with a co worker the other day. I was telling them how my 5 and 3 year olds think i am the greatest. I ask them about school stuff and they can't wait to tell me. the other day my oldest asked me something about some cartoon he was watching. I had no idea what he was talking about so i said "I don't know". he looked at me with all seriousness and said "Dad, I thought you knew everything?" they guy at work was trying to tell me when this would all come to an end. *sigh*

Yeah, this is stressing me out! Are things so political at the school your son goes to Swede? Jeeeez, the football coaches put all this pressure on the boys to run track. The track coaches are always fighting with the baseball coaches cause they don't want the boys doing both. So basically the boys that want to run track get penalized by the baseball coaches for not being at everything they want them to be at. The track season officially ends after baseball officially starts....by like 3 weeks. So my boy will only be able to be at 1 week of baseball practice before the first game. So we've already had the baseball coach giving us the "look". What the hell!!! Let these kids be active in as many things as they want...........especially as Freshman!!!! There is the wood bat league that is starting now that all the "serious" baseball players are supposed to join to get in shape for regular season. I didn't sign my son up for that because it would interfere with track.......again, we got the "look". It will really tick me off if they hold this against him during the baseball season. I got him a membership at the baseball academy (indoor hitting facility) for 3 months during the winter and he was there 3-4 nights a week. I would think that would show he's serious about baseball. I feel bad for him, he loves track and he loves baseball and is being made to feel he can't do both. I seriously hope he does well in track and then starts baseball late and kicks ass this year!!!! Stinks coaches are being jerks about this they should encourage well rounded athletes. Yeah, so that's my rant!

RE: cartoons----watch them so you can answer their questions or give a good educated guess. You think I enjoyed watching Sponge Bob Square Pants????? hahaha.....well, actually, I kinda did Some crazy guy made millions on that one!!

Yeah, hate to burst your bubble but there will come a day when your beautiful, precious, sweet children become teenagers and no longer think you know ANYTHING! Pretty much anything you tell them ....from experience, they tell you that things are different now. (yeah, well, not really smartass!! lol) Oh, and this is my favorite....my son: "why are you staring at me?" Me: well excuse me, I'm trying to figure out how you grew 6 inches in the last 2 months and now have facial hair!! It's all good though.....love them more than anything!!!
