Those stupid Peckerheaded Browns; I liked DQuell Jackson as a MLB

at 6'0 230lbs I think he's a bit too small to make it in the NFL at the ILB position, although I could be wrong.

That's a good move by the Saints after losing Bentley.

It's going to be really interesting to see who Teddy picks here. We still have holes along our O-Line and at Wide Reciever, and both have viable options at this spot.

WR - Chad Jackson, Sinorice Moss

or

O-Line - Charles Spencer

???

Make us proud teddy!

I KNOW Moss is small, but the one thing that really intrigues me about him is his playmaking ability as a return man as well. But Chad Jackson will probably be the beter WR long term. Spencer can probably come in and start right away at OG, but I wonder if we can trade down and still grab him in round two.

LenDale White

LenDale White would seem like a good fit for a team that plays on grass in cold weather. He's a between the tackles runner, much like some of Denver's recent backs and Atlanta's T.J. Duckett. That also might make White a good fit for a zone blocking scheme.

But even the Green Bay Packers need speed and there's some uncertainty about that with White. Moreover, there also could be a hidden reason why he has slipped this far in the draft.

Rastak

Jackson is there for Green Bay....

Rocky McIntosh
OLB, Miami (FL)

War Room analysis
Strengths: Shows outstanding athleticism and speed. Has a good frame with long arms and the room to get bigger. Works best in the open field. Shows good range, uses hands well to fight through traffic and aggressively pursues the ball. Takes good angles, doesn't overpursue the ball, breaks down and is an explosive tackler. Is a good edge pass rusher, displaying a closing burst. Has upside in coverage because of athleticism and decent ball skills. Has experience on special teams. Is intense, and shows a solid work ethic. Is a smart and disciplined student, earning college degree before senior season.

Weaknesses: Is a durability concern because of shoulder problems and a herniated disk in \u201804. Sat out '05 spring practice and had knee scoped for the second time just before fall practices began. Must improve awareness in pass coverage. Must bulk up to improve leverage at the point of attack.

Bottom line: McIntosh can play any of the linebacker spots but is best suited to play on the weak side, where he can best use his athleticism and speed in open field. He projects as a future starter who should go in the late second round and would be rated much higher if not for the durability issues.

Dan Pompei analysis
Solid tackler who hits hard and wraps up well. Comes off blocks nicely. Runs well and stays active as a defender. Shows the athleticism and quickness to cover backs and tight ends. Instincts are average. Has experience at all three linebacker positions and probably can play any of them in the NFL.
No. 5 on Pompei's OLB rankings

Chad Jackson
WR, Florida

War Room analysis
Hands: Shows strong hands and excellent concentration to look the ball into his hands. Is willing to go over the middle and make tough catches in traffic. Grade: 8.1.

Patterns: Didn't run many deep routes at Florida, but has the speed to get behind NFL cornerbacks. Runs precise routes, and shows a good burst in and out of cuts. Drops weight and settles feet well on hitch and comeback routes. Grade: 8.0.

Run after catch: Turns short passes into big gains. Shows a good burst after the catch, and is a strong runner. Is at his best on underneath routes -- using his size, strength and quickness to get open and then turning on his speed to get upfield. Grade: 8.2.

Release: Shows above-average quickness and a powerful burst off the line. Has the size and strength to beat jams. Grade: 7.9. Blocking: Has the physical tools to be an effective downfield blocker, but must improve technique and become more aggressive. Grade: 7.8.

Bottom line: Jackson, who has good size and deceptive speed, is polished and has plenty of experience against elite competition. He's a borderline first-round prospect, but his performance at the Combine solidified him as a first-round pick. He'll likely be the first receiver drafted.

Dan Pompei analysis
Shows outstanding measurable skills. Has size and speed to go with good hands and toughness. Is outstanding when going over the middle. Caught a lot of balls at Florida, but didn't make many big plays. Doesn't get a lot of yardage after the catch. Didn't show explosiveness, separation or precise route running. Could be more aggressive going after passes. Has considerable potential. Leaving school after junior season.

Jimmy Williams
CB, Virginia Tech

War Room analysis
Coverage skills: Has great height, size, speed and long arms. Is a versatile playmaker. Can play cornerback or safety. Excels in man-to-man coverage, and easily reroutes receivers. Has excellent strength, is physical and challenges for jump balls. Uses size effectively in the red zone. Shows quick, fluid hip movement to turn and run with any receiver. Excels at changing direction. Must improve zone awareness. Grade: 8.4

Run/pass recognition: Shows only adequate awareness. Gets caught peeking into the backfield; tends to lock on to the quarterback, and must focus more on receivers. Grade: 8.2

Closing speed: Has rare quickness, change-of-direction skills and speed. Makes quick cuts in tight spaces. Is smooth. Shows an outstanding burst on the ball. Grade: 8.6

Ball skills: Is a natural playmaker. Is aggressive, and has the size and strength to win battles. Shows good hands. Is a threat to score after every interception. Grade: 8.7

Run support: Has good size, bulk and strength. Comes up and fills the hole hard. Is physical, tackles well and hits hard. Grade: 8.7

Bottom line: Williams immediately will improve some NFL team. He should remain a cornerback, but some teams consider him more valuable as a safety. Regardless, Williams is a playmaker and quarterbacks will hesitate to throw his way. He should be selected in the Top 15 of the draft and be one of the top defensive backs selected.

Dan Pompei analysis
Is a big, gifted athlete with man-to-man ability. Is a smooth athlete who can turn and run with receivers. Has good recovery speed. Changes directions quickly. Is strong and tough in run support, and is a good tackler. Shows good instincts. Is calm under pressure. Guesses a bit too often, giving up some big plays. Loses focus and plays undisciplined at times. Shows below-average ball skills. Would be best in a cover-2 scheme. Is a former safety who could be moved back there. Has some concerns about his attitude, but appears to have matured.

On Sirius radio, NFL.com's Gil Brandt said the Packers turned down an offer from the Chiefs for Javon Walker for one from the Broncos.

But now Brandt is speculating Walker might have failed his physical as to reason why this trade has not happened.

Packers trade down

The Green Bay Packers just traded back 16 positions in the second round and picked up another third-round choice in the process. In a trade with New England, the Packers dropped from 36th to 52nd in the second round and also picked up the 75th pick.

The Patriots used the choice to draft wide receiver Chad Jackson.

In the trade value system that most teams use in determining the value of choices, the 36th pick that the Packers relinquished was worth 540 points. The 52nd pick is worth 380 points and the 75th pick, 215 points, for a total of 595.

Oaktown gets...

Thomas Howard
OLB, UTEP

War Room analysis
Strengths: Has outstanding speed and size with the frame to add bulk. Shows a first-step burst, great body control and change-of-direction skills. Makes plays sideline-to-sideline. Disrupts many plays in the backfield. Is aggressive in pursuit, uses hands well to fight through traffic and chases down the ball from behind. Tackles with a pop. Is an effective edge pass rusher; shows a good closing burst. Has upside in coverage because of athleticism and smooth hip transition to turn and run with receivers. Can contribute immediately on special teams.

Weaknesses: Must develop awareness and instincts and learn to play against elite competition. Sometimes plays with blinders on -- getting too aggressive, overrunning the ball and getting out of plays. Must bulk up to better hold his ground at the point of attack. Must strengthen upper body and use hands better to shed blockers. Must shed bad habits developed against lesser competition, such as skipping blockers and taking bad angles to the ball. Bites on play-action fakes, and is slow to drop into coverage. Struggled to make plays on the ball at the Senior Bowl, dropping two potential interceptions.

Bottom line: Howard operates best in the open field with room to chase the ball. He has great upside but faces a big NFL learning curve from a mid-major conference, where he relied heavily on his superior speed and athleticism. Based on his upside and impressive pre-draft workouts, Thomas grades out as late-Round 1 prospect.

Dan Pompei analysis
Is big and explosive; consistently blows up ball carriers. Is decisive; reacts quickly, but doesn't always read plays correctly. Best assets are athleticism and speed. Has trouble taking on blockers. Shows some good pass-rush skills. Best suited for strong side. Played safety in high school.
No. 6 on Pompei's OLB rankings

Winston Justice
T, USC

War Room analysis
Run blocking: Is tall and has the room to add needed bulk. Has a strong upper body with a quick first step. Takes good angles on blocks. Gets good hand placement, drives legs and finishes blocks. Controls defenders but does not overwhelm them. Grade: 7.2.

Pass blocking: Has a wide wingspan that makes defenders take a wide arc. Shows great athleticism; adjusts well to inside moves. As a right tackle, played blindside pass protector to lefthanded Matt Leinart in college. Sometimes struggles against speed rushers and loses some battles off the edge. Needs more polish. Grade: 6.9.

Initial quickness: Is a gifted athlete who moves well for his size. Bursts quickly out of sets and takes good angles as a run blocker. Struggles against elite speed rushers. Sets quickly and plays in control. Grade: 7.2.

Strength: Has an impressive frame and great strength. Has the arms and hands to control defenders at the point of attack. Explosion is good but not great. Does not overwhelm opponents with size. Grade: 7.0.

Mobility: Shows nice footwork and quickness when run blocking through and into the open field. Redirects and slides in protection. Will benefit from NFL coaching and technique work. Grade: 7.0.

Bottom line: Justice, a great athlete, played in a pro-style offense at USC, where he started since his freshman season. He missed a season because of a suspension but kept himself in terrific shape and played well this past season, though it is clear he still needs time to develop. His off-field trouble might hold him back a bit, but he has the physical skills and attitude to become a great NFL player. His upside as a pass protector makes him a solid first-rounder.

Dan Pompei analysis
Is a solid pass protector with athleticism to handle speed rushers. Had a great pre-draft workout to solidify his standing in the top half of Round 1. Played the right side in college, protecting lefty Matt Leinart's blind side. Has an excellent build. Shows the body control to mirror pass rushers\u2019 moves. Could be a little vulnerable to power rushes. In the running game, is more of a position blocker and does not play with explosion. Is tentative at times. Some question his maturity. Could have benefited from returning for senior season.
No. 2 on Pompei's OT rankings

No one should be surprised by what TT is doing here. The draft is his "thing" and he wants as many picks as he can. He's getting good value in the process. Teams get hot and bothered, like Sherman used to, and focus on a certain player and overpay to get them. Given the many "needs" of this Packer team coming into the draft, acquiring more picks is huge.

Of course, the trick of all this is TT hitting on these extra picks when he chooses. We are either seeing the initial foundation of a SB quality team being picked in this draft....or TT will find himself run out of town in a few years. There is no in between here.

TRADE SUMMARIES:

PACKERS TRADE: #36, #37 (Javon Walker), #139
PACKERS GET: # 47, #52, #75, #93, #148

POINTS TRADED: 540 + 530 + 36.5 = 1106.5
POINTE RECEIVED: 430 + 380 + 215 + 128 + 32.3 = 1185.3

So we came ahead of on this trade.

Before we had 1 2nd rounder, 1 3rd rounder, 1 5th rounder
Now we have 2 2nd rounders, 3 3rd rounders, 1 5th rounder

Thank you for the summary!

Tank, TT is kicking serious ass. We're going to get a pile of quality players with all these picks. Instead of hoping Chad Jackson pans out, you've got two or three guys that have that chance.

And JWalk was going to be a cancer. To get a high second rounder for that is good, esp. given his injury.

Name one WR better than walker thompson can get out of this draft. name one.

instead of quality, thompson is going for quantity. that is the work of a fuck up. fuck fuck fuck. i cant stop say fuck cos thompson keeps fucking up. fuck.

The Walker trade

General manager Ted Thompson promised earlier today that the Green Bay Packers wouldn't dump Javon Walker in "a fire sale." On the surface, trading a Pro Bowl wide receiver for a second-round draft pick would seem to qualify as a fire sale.

But there's no word yet on whether the Denver Broncos have reached agreement with Walker on a new contract. If not, the Broncos own Walker's rights only for next season. Also factor in that Walker is coming off an ACL injury and, at this point, it would be hard to call the deal a steal for the Broncos.

Bretsky

No one should be surprised by what TT is doing here. The draft is his "thing" and he wants as many picks as he can. He's getting good value in the process. Teams get hot and bothered, like Sherman used to, and focus on a certain player and overpay to get them. Given the many "needs" of this Packer team coming into the draft, acquiring more picks is huge.

Of course, the trick of all this is TT hitting on these extra picks when he chooses. We are either seeing the initial foundation of a SB quality team being picked in this draft....or TT will find himself run out of town in a few years. There is no in between here.

THE NAME PLAYERS ARE COMING OFF THE BOARD LIKE CRAZY; YOU ARE RIGHT.

I LIKE THE MOVES BUT I WANT TO SEE HOW TT USES THE PICKS BEFORE PRAISING HIM OR TRASHING HIM.

Walker trade - another look

Packers trade Javon Walker to Broncos for pick No. 37.

The Packers then traded pick No. 37 and pick No. 139 to the Falcons for pick Nos. 47, 93, and 148.

In essence, after both deals, the Packers traded Walker for a second- (47) and third-round pick (93).

The trade with Atlanta

By trading the second-round draft pick that they acquired from the Denver Broncos and their own fifth-round choice to the Atlanta Falcons, the Green Bay Packers gave up 566.5 points in the point value system. The 37th overall choice acquired from Denver was worth 530 points and the fifth-round pick, the 139th overall, was worth 35.5 points.

In return, the Packers received a lower second, the 47th choice; a third, the 93rd pick; and a fifth, the 148th pick. Those three choices were worth 590.2 points. Their value follows: 47th choice (430 points), 93rd choice (128 points) and the 148th (32.2 points).

The Packers now have two second-round choices: 47th and 52nd. They also have three thirds: 67th, 75th and 93rd. And they have four picks going into Sunday: One fourth (104th overall); two fifths (148th and 165th) and one seventh (253rd).

That would give them a total of 10 picks. They started the day with seven.

I completely agree with Esoxx's analysis here. TT is a damn poker player. This is so, so much more satisfying than watching Shermy trade away half the damn draft so he can grab a punter or an overrated defensive tackle from Clemson or Ohio State.

It only means something if he produces more players with the picks. He must think more of the guys at 47-90 than the rest of the league.

Scott, from what I've seen this draft is deep through the first three rounds. We have went from one #2 & 3, to two #2's & three #3's. For as much as I've hated on TT in his FA work, I really trust him on his draft acumen. It really is his thing so in this area I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt. He's studied enough film, scouted enough games....to have an idea what is out there that will hopefully make GB a better team for years to come.

Come on Tank. No, TT did not get only an extra third. He basically traded Javon Walker and the 36th pick (second round) for two seconds and three thirds. And let me remind you that this draft is considered one of the deeper drafts in quite some time.

Let me remind you also that Donald Driver was a seventh round pick, as was Mark Tauscher. Henderson was a third round pick. Freeman was a third round pick. Kampman was a fifth round pick.

Thar's gold in them thar hills, boy.

No Mo Moss

I love the fact that we can draft ahead of MN. Here in the twin cities they made a huge deal about having 2 seconds and now we get to draft ahead of them still and we get 3 3rd rders.Don't be shocked if they move ahead of GB to get Hodge.....it would only be a couple of spots....

Well they'd have to do it now with the titans. Also the Vikes are going QB with one of these 2 2nds.
