Also, with Cobb out, Boykin got extra snaps during the final drive and had a pair of very good catches. Made most of opportunity.

People outside of Packer Nation don't know who Boykin is. They'll find out. Runs good routes and Rodgers trusts him.
That fourth down throw last year versus Vikings (was it?) really seems portentous now.
Bud Adams told me the franchise he admired the most was the Kansas City Chiefs. Then he asked for more hookers and blow.

If it's only a partial tear, perhaps wearing a brace is a possibility. Of course, there's then the question of whether the brace is too restrictive to allow the knee to function properly.

Players have done it. Was it Dixon who was the QB for the Oregon Duck? He played a bowl game without an ACL.

Logan Mankins did it as well, though not sure he went the whole season. Also Guard is different than Left Tackle.

Which knee is it? Can you do a kick-slide with a knee brace on?

            • If it's a partial tear, the recovery time is shorter...at least that's what I've heard. If that's the case they could put him on the IR-but-might-come-back list the NFL came up with last year. Either way, I'm not counting on Bulaga playing this year, and I can't imagine them starting him.

DuJuan Blair plays in the NBA and reportedly does not have ACLs in either knee. I suppose anything is possible, and it's OL, not WR, where guys play really beat up all the time...but still.

Giving Bahktiari first crack at LT makes sense. Barclay at RG/RT, Van Roten at LG/C are your backups. Datko has sounded shaky so far, but maybe getting more reps at LT (IMO he belongs at T, not G) will help. I think they'll carry 8 OL this year. Does it come down to Datko or Sherrod as the backup LT...or Newhouse becomes the backup LT and Barclay slides in at RT?

The preseason contests will be very important for the OL.

As for VY, adding competition to the QBs is good, but I'm not really expecting him to make the roster. Sounds like another year on the PS for Coleman.

If only Ted had drafted Mankins he could show Bryan how to do it: http://www.packersnews.com/article/2...0101/130806030

New England Patriots guard Logan Mankins tore his right ACL in a season-opener against the Miami Dolphins in 2011. He played in all 16 games during the regular season and throughout the Patriots’ run to the Super Bowl, where they lost to the New York Giants. Along the way, he also tore the medial collateral ligament in his left knee.

#Packers WR Randall Cobb was out of practice today for an injury to his biceps tendon. I'm told it's "not serious." So, that's good.

Until we find out tomorrow it's a torn bicep and he's done for the year. Way things have been going, I wouldn't be surprised.

                      • Wednesday Practice, 8-7-13

Neal is back. Abdomen must be OK.

Lacy is out, no pads. Joke on Twitter that he must have gained 44 pounds overnight. Better joke is that he made himself sick losing 44 pounds overnight last week.

Datone Jones is over his illness and is back.

                        Cobb is back

On the bright side for Green Bay at RB, Alex Green (knee) has returned after sitting out one practice. Harris/Lacy both out.

Cobb is practicing without a brace or anything I can see. He is wearing long sleeves so I'm not sure if there is anything under that.

So I've got a total of 14 guys out, six of whom are on PUP.

I HESITATE TO CALL THIS AN IMPROVEMENT

Interesting: Mike Neal is working with the OLBs, not the D-line.

                          THAT IS A BIG OLB

Jermichael Finley capped off his second practice of camp by latching onto a medium-range TD pass from Aaron Rodgers.

Tim Masthay showing a nice leg on kickoffs. Had some wind at his back. Definitely stronger than Tavecchio.

I HOPE THIS DOES NOT AFFECT THE PUNTING

There's the downside with Masthay, erratic. Muffs kickoff for 2.1 second hang and ball falls to 15

Second opinion is back on Packers LT Bryan Bulaga: He'll have surgery to repair a torn ACL once the swelling goes down, per league source.

Haven't ever heard Starks called Jim before, but that's how Rodgers just addressed him during fundamental drill.
