Let the Irish boy have his shot! If you’re going to play young guys on ST so they get practice reps, why not do it with the kicker?!?

Its not the head coach and its not the ST coach*. Its the organization. It would be true if you included all of Teds' years.

20 years of stink on an organization goes beyond the coach. It should be the first question asked of Gutekunst every time he appears in public.

        * Though there are times these two definitely do not help

Bud Adams told me the franchise he admired the most was the Kansas City Chiefs. Then he asked for more hookers and blow.

And more ST penalties in Arizona. Not a tight ship over there in Green Bay right now.

Yeah, and arguably that's on coaching /on Bisaccia.
What could be more GOOD and NORMAL and AMERICAN than Packer Football?

Well, I am sure one more ST coaching change will clear this up no problem. It’s not like the franchise has a 20 year track record of failure in this area. It’s got to be the coaching.

In all seriousness, then: what IS the solution?

The GM decides how many special teams stalwarts make the roster.

The head coach decides each week which players will be made available for special teams.

The Packers have had no problem with blocked place kicks once they put their starting OL out there.

                        Short term, play the starters.

Longer term, either Gutenkunst changes the youth movement approach (unlikely) or is let go (also unlikely) or the Packers devote a much larger segment of practice to Special Teams. Even that might not be enough if the talent isn't there among the yutes.

But I am not sure there is much more room for ST specialists. They have a couple from Bisaccia's Raiders (or did) and even then they have two kick returners who did not do this job in college.

Draft and Develop just doesn't lend itself to special teams success. Essentially, you would have to cut bait earlier on prospects in order to open up more spots for special teamers. Given the dead money on the cap, those special teamers will not be valued veterans who perform as true backups on O and D. There isn't the cap space anymore. They need the youth for the cap and the development. They may not be able to afford Allen Rossum.

Draft and develop shouldn't prevent special teams success. If it does, that's on the coaches, specifically on Bisaccia, the coordinator. Elite athletes - as just about every NFL player is, even younger ones, by normal people standards - should be eminently coachable to perform at least adequately on special teams. Making dumb mistakes just shouldn't happen, at least not to a worse extent as with other teams.

The other aspect of special teams coaching beyond just the stupid mistakes is having an innovative coordinator who can be creative and make some things happen - blocked kicks, big returns, fakes, etc. that wouldn't otherwise happen. I don't recall seeing that sort of things ever from Bisaccia.

So we blame the loss and tie on ST - the 61yr FG was the difference in W/L vs the Cards. Fair is fair

So then is it fair to say that the Packers are undefeated when the ST doesn't **** up and winless when they do?

Then you can favor us by naming the last Packers team with good special teams while under the a draft and develop philosophy?
