One big thing everyone is missing about our "awful" pass rush. We aren't always trying to sack the QB in record time. Under Barry how many times did you see QBs escape the pocket and run for 20 yards? Now I ask how many times you saw it last year? We had something like 14 sacks in 2 games against QBs that weren't mobile. But most important we contained guys like Hurts.

This defense is designed to stop offenses, not to rack up gaudy sack numbers. We stop the run. We contain mobile QBs and force them to win in the pocket faster than it collapses around them. I'll take subdued sacks if it means no more heart breaking 20 yard runs on 3rd and 11.

Don't expect a trade for Watt or anyone else. Don't expect Gary to get 12 sacks. Just expect that we will grind the clock, stop offenses from scoring and win games.

Hopefully our CB's holdup and that is not what sinks the D this year

14 sacks in 2 games against immobile QBs? Well, that bodes well for the game against the Steelers, if Rodgers is still around by then.

Sadly I expect he can find fresh legs for one game next year.

When I first read your post about Engabare fighting for a spot I thought that is crazy. The more I think it over, the more you could be right. 4th year player who has flashed but not been solid enough to get extensive playing time.

I had the same thought when I read that. At first dismissed, then came around on it. That is going to be a camp battle to watch for sure.

I just have a feeling that this team is going to be special this year. I think some of these third year guys are gonna want extensions so they're gonna ball out, come in in elite shape, etc. The guys like Doubs that didn't get extended are going to be a wrecking crew. The concern is there's not enough balls to go around - but somehow I think it'll work out and they'll be a fantastic offense. Lots of extensions on the line - Doubs, both TEs, Reed, Wicks, etc.

They have to trade a WR right? I mean Doubs, Golden, Reed, Wicks, Watson, Williams makes 6. That leaves zero room for a cheap developmental player. Also not nearly enough footballs to make them all happy. No room for jack off all trades Bo Melton. I guess they can PUP Watson, keep 6 and have injury protection, but its just too many viable bodies. You really want 4+Melton IF someone is injured. 5+Melton if no one is injured just seems like someone will be unhappy and cause issues.

Doubs is every writers choice and it probably makes the most sense, but what if it were Reed who probably has the most value? Dunno, just know that somethings gotta give.

In My 53 man roster thread, I actually had them keeping 7 WR's (Jayden Reed, Dontayvion Wicks, Romeo Doubs, Matthew Golden, Savion Williams, Mecole Hardman, Bo Melton) with Watson on PUP. I had them with just 4 WR's but Bullard also plays mostly slot corner. The expanded practice squad makes it harder to predict how many they will keep at each position on the 53. And the last roster spots are largely determined by special teams.

That said, trading a WR, probably for a CB might make sense.

Guys get injured all the time at the receiver position. I expect to be no different in 2025.

Exactly. Are you going to inactive Doubs or Savion? Melton/Hardman are ST guys so hard to leave them inactive. Its just a "good problem" to have, but it makes finally taking a WR in the firsts on a run oriented team even more perplexing to me. If Golden is flat out incredible I think it was a bad pick (incidentally I think it was a bad pick).

If Melton or Hardman are not active for ST play, there is no reason to keep them.

As for Golden, I don't necessarily understand the pick this year, but often I don't. So I will just wait and see. Maybe they have tired of Doubs and Watson, so are just hoping to rebuild the group.

2 of our top 4 WR are injuried (Watson) or 1 hit away (Doubs and concussions) from being gone permanently. I think we needed to rebuild the room just for the what ifs.

If Melton sticks, he'll probably take the roster spot of the last CB. As for the rest, Reed is good, Wicks can't catch, Doubs has concussion problems, Watson can't stay heathy, Hardman is a journeyman, and Williams is a rookie gadget guy. With that in mind I think Golden was a good pick, and a great one if he pans out. Also, Doubs and Watson are at the end of their contracts, so you have to keep bringing in talented receivers or you wind up with a Lazard as #1.
