I won't play along - but I can site sources and support no position......Originally posted by Scott CampbellOk, I'll play along:Originally posted by MerlinFor every 1 person who isn't a Muslim that commits terrorism I will provide you with 99 Muslims that committed terrorism. How's that for "proof".
1) Timothy McVeigh
According to statistics of the National Counterterrorism Center, a national government organization of the United States, Islamic extremism was responsible for approximately 57% of terrorist fatalities and 61% of woundings in 2004 and early 2005, where a terrorist perpetrator could be specified. Extremist acts have included airline hijacking, beheading, kidnapping, assassination, roadside bombing, suicide bombing, and occasionally rape.[3][4] Terrorist threats have included fatwas and death threats. Both Muslims and non-Muslims have been among the targets and victims.
Abdel Rahman al-Rashed, a Muslim and the general manager of Arab news channel, Al-Arabiya has said: "It is a certain fact that not all Muslims are terrorists, but it is equally certain, and exceptionally painful, that almost all terrorists are Muslims." Statistics compiled by the United States government's Counterterrorism Center present a more complicated picture: of known and specified terrorist incidents from the beginning of 2004 through the first quarter of 2005, slightly more than half of the fatalities were attributed to Islamic extremists but a majority of over-all incidents were considered of either "unknown/unspecified" or a secular political nature. The vast majority of the "unknown/unspecified" terrorism fatalities did however happen in Islamic regions such as Iraq and Afghanistan, or in regions where Islam is otherwise involved in conflicts such as the West Bank, the Gaza Strip, southern Thailand and KashmirThe measure of who we are is what we do with what we have.

No prob, Zool - while I posted a topic I don't own a thread - MTP really does.... just pointing out how funny the steam of consciousness runs our off season topics.Originally posted by ZoolSorry Fosco. I guess we should go jack your other thread too just to complete the circle.
Anyone catch LOST tonight - wow - I wonder if Locke will kill his Dad?
Happy Spring everyone.
3.5 weeks to file taxes. I've got to file 4 states - what a pain in the ass.
There - enough topics to chew on...

That was a bad ass lost. Something tells me the "monster" is John's father. That is just too weird. I mean why would he randomly end up there? Unless when he said "get me the man from Tennessee" he was referring to Locke's dad. Regardless, that was quite the development!

If anyone is a threat to the American way of life it's Americans.Originally posted by HarveyWallbangersI love this. It's right out of the left-wing playbook. Caw! Let's not worry about a threat because there's a more convenient "threat" to prop up (and, look at that, it's those darned right-wing extremists). Left wing extremists had their pipe bombers (see Minnesota's own Sarah Jane Olsen). Right wing extremists had their McVeigh and the abortion-doctor killing dude. Scary! Sorry, it's a tired and lame argument.Originally posted by Tyrone BiggunsAs far as terrorist goes...tyrone is much more concerned with right wing extremists and neo nazi groups in this country. Mcveigh wasn't muslin, nor was that loon who killed doctors who performed abortions.
Neo-Nazi groups. Hah! Funny! They are so rampant. Them and the Gangs are the real threats to the American way of life.C.H.U.D.

Sadly, I'm not surprised. Partial and Merlin can call each other names. Wonder what you'd say if I called Merlin or Partial names.... Wait we've already been through that, haven't we?Originally posted by the_idle_threatHuh? Wait ... what did I miss?Originally posted by retailguyAll I want to know, is, where is Idle? He should break this up...
I've been stuck in a meeting with "the mob." We've been coming up with new and innovative ways to oppress YOU, RG!

Nice comic... Nice dig.. Thanks.

Actually, Partial, you misunderstood what Merlin wrote. He said name terrorists who are not Muslim, rather than Muslims who are not terrorists.
The truth between your position and his is somewhere in the middle. There are some terror organizations that are not Muslim (e.g. the IRA, and some orgs. in South America) but the majority of orgs. which embrace terrorism are Muslim. It certainly doesn't mean that all Muslims are terrorists, but people who are responsible for security, who have to be right every time in order to prevent disaster, have reason to raise their awareness level when a person acting suspiciously appears to be Muslim.
