You know how shit happens in 3s... well I get home from my weekly travel to find that my girlfriend borrowed my car b/c hers was out of gas - she scraped into a pole while parking causing like 350 in damages... i played it off like I didn't care and didn't get mad at her. A few weeks back she borrowed it and left the lights on - had to jump it. I've told her not to use my car before - and she pulls it again.
What would you do?The measure of who we are is what we do with what we have.

Ideally, you would have a conversation about boundaries and/or responsibility.Originally posted by Fosco33You know how shit happens in 3s... well I get home from my weekly travel to find that my girlfriend borrowed my car b/c hers was out of gas - she scraped into a pole while parking causing like 350 in damages... i played it off like I didn't care and didn't get mad at her. If you prefer to avoid a direct confrontation, however, perhaps lock up all sets of the car keys in a strongbox or something when you're out of town. I'd suggest taking them with you, but it's probably a good idea to bring along as few valuables as possible while traveling.
Sad that it would have to come to that, though.

You should have gotten mad. Now she thinks you don't care if she uses your car and she doesn't have to respect the boundaries you've already set. You have to let her know that you're upset and if it happens again, you're gonna go through the roof.Originally posted by Fosco33You know how shit happens in 3s... well I get home from my weekly travel to find that my girlfriend borrowed my car b/c hers was out of gas - she scraped into a pole while parking causing like 350 in damages... i played it off like I didn't care and didn't get mad at her. Well I am upset and she obviously knows that - she's also probably embarrassed since she knew the boundary existed. I bet she put herself through enough stress thinking about how to tell me, etc. and even took the car into a shop, got an estimate and offered to get it fixed. My problem now is - she's not able to afford it. So, it will one way or another become my problem to pay for. I'm seeing some patterns in this relationship and this is just another point where it makes me question my long-term commitment.Originally posted by MJZiggyYou should have gotten mad. The Packer pole is a hilarious idea, BTW.The measure of who we are is what we do with what we have.

Her car was out of gas? What does that mean? She drove her car to the point where it just conked out at your place. Does that mean she was expecting a ride to the gas station where she would fill up a gas container?
I think you know what to do with a chick like that. This isn't a chick issue..this is a person issue.
And, she can't afford 350 to fix it. Dude, what type of chicks are you dating? I know the chicks at subway are cute and all..but, c'mon.
You need to make a decision. Are you planning on supporting her the rest of her life, if so, marry her. Otherwise you need to look at the long term ramifications of being with someone who doesn't respect you, respect your shit, makes mistakes and can't afford to fix them, and most importantly..really isn't learning from their mistakes.
It is one thing to make a mistake if it only affects yourself..it is another if it is affecting someone else.

She lives with me - we've been together like 4 yrs. And yes, most of the stuff you wrote hits home... she has a decent job (45K) but saves as much as she can and pays me almost half rent. She's also only parttime now b/c she's in school studying to become a physical therapist. And she can afford it, but put it this way - if I made her give me 350 at the start, I'd be paying for all the meals, etc anyways. I'll probably just have her give me more in rent over the next few months.Originally posted by Tyrone BiggunsHer car was out of gas? What does that mean? Anyone familiar with using touchup paint? I got a decent sized bottle when a tree fell on my roof a year ago on New Years.... I figued I wash the affected area, sand/buff it to blend, wash it again and then apply the touch up. If it doesn't look good, then I'll take it in.The measure of who we are is what we do with what we have.

Sorry kids and mods, but this is not PG13.
I called Delta today and asked about reimbursement for the camera - they denied the claim because it is an electronic item....
WTF - so - basically Delta says that anyone can steal any electronic item without resolve - give me a fuckin break. I fly to/from SLC every week at about a 15K/yr cost - I will refuse to fly Delta again until this is resolved. That'll teach a failing business that 15000>250. I've called and left msgs as such with the corporate office - maybe someone there has went through basic bath.
Airlines are moronic and are going under because they treat people like cattle and don't give a shit about anything. Passenger Bill of Rights needs to be enacted and something like this covered under the rights of the passengers to obtain reimbursement and retribution for stolen property. The measure of who we are is what we do with what we have.

Way to go, Fosco (Hey, that rhymes)!
S.I.F. flyer............ Seriously Intelligent Frequent Flyer? Sincerely Intuitive Frequent Flyer?
How about a regular customer with some self-respect whose fed up with Delta's crappy consumer policies? - Good job! Maybe there's hope for rest of us.
