Over 500 homes destroyed by wildfires in Texas. My sister moved from the area affected to Arizona last month. As far as she knows, their former home is still standing, but she knows friends and co-workers from the area who have lost homes. Some mixed emotions going on. Grateful and heartbroken at the same time.

Boys won their first football game this season. Woot! 1-2 Got a taste of that WIN...now look out! :)

Out of town game and first time they experienced a police escort. Obviously been some trouble with that school.

And the reason for that? You're trying to blow away during the next windstorm?

No, it was actually quite the opposite. At work they bring in donuts, bagels and muffins for breakfast, so after my muffin, we had our first Friday BBQ and invited the local firefighters--dogs and burgers with white bread buns, baked beans with ground beef mixed in, and, of course I skipped the salad to have macaroni salad, and fritos & cheetos, followed by ice cream after my 3:00 meeting and then watermelon. By the time I got home, blech. But that was yesterday. Today, I go to the store and get some decent food for the week.

MJZiggy

Ok, so I've ripped out the weeds on the far side of the lawn and planted grass three times, and each time the weeds grow back and choke out the grass. I give up. I'm planting shrubs to shade out the weeds. Take that!

(suggestions for shrubs? Not too tall, will do well on a hill and can defeat broadleaf weeds?)

You should attempt the joy that is driving through Rosendale sometime. Doing 33 m.p.h. in that 30 m.p.h. zone can net you a traffic ticket. The locals even have t-shirts printed up:

This doesn't exactly rate as "nothing" to Seattle-ites... BUT didn't know where to "spout" off about it so... anywhoo... into this thread it shall plop... Amanda Knox has just landed at SeaTac on British Airways Flight 49. It's CRAZY here! The local news is just going batshit! "We" have been fervently following this story for four long years and, locally, for the most part anyway, the tenor is that FINALLY justice has been served and she is free. The International and National "spin" varies naturally, and I feel for Kercher's family... BUT... Amanda is home...where the majority of "us" feel she should be... Anne Bremner is to be applauded for her tenaciousness...

It's hard to grasp the fact that this is an International story when "we" are so entrenched on the local level... "we" are so emotionally invested because in following this over the years the actions of the Italian "system" has been so scandalous... ludicrous... bloviating... absolutely unbelievable...so it's almost surreal that it is such a HUGE issue right now on a global stage...wow... hard for us Seattle peeps to grasp really... news conference to follow in 15 minutes and the homecoming here is just unbelievable!

20/80 rule: 20% of people do 80%of the work. As long as stuff gets done, parents will assume you have it covered. The only thing I can think of is plan an event that sounds nice, remind parents that involvement in their kids school is what makes life more fun, and then cancel it for lack of parental participation--but that's not very nice.

You have to reel them in early. Hold a very public volunteer parents "thank you" event. Have the school put in the newsletter a "parent volunteer of the year" or make some sort of incentive for the kids whose parents participate (increases pressure from the kids to have their parents involved) sort of like the prizes they give for the fundraisers. If you use your imagination, it doesn't have to cost anything. My kid's elementary school auctions off activities with teachers and staff every year and holds a volunteer luncheon every year.

I swear....how crazy/pathetic can some people be??????????

A few months ago a co-worker invited all of us to a benefit for a friend of hers that had cancer. Early in the planning stage the story became more pitiful in that her husband left her after he found out she had cancer....said he couldn't bear to watch her die. So many of my co-workers, myself included, either went to the benefit or bought raffle tickets. There was some VERY nice stuff that businesses had donated for the raffles/prizes...one even being a resort package. I think 3 local bands played for free at the benefit. A local female attorney even did her divorce for free from the loser husband that left her when she found out she had cancer.

Got a call this morning.....the whole thing was made up!! Being someone that has lost family members to cancer and also has two that are cancer survivors this news just makes me feel sick!! I can't even begin to imagine how someone could do this....to make THAT story up.

Didn't even know this during the whole thing but here my sister (breast cancer survivor) works with this woman. She kept coming to her asking her strange questions about symptoms/time frames about when she went through chemo. Apparently she got fired yesterday for her scam. She used FMLA....wonder what the implications will be there for scamming a federal program????? And it's not like this woman worked a minimum wage job and needed money to feed her kids....she was in administration in a nursing facility.

So sometime during this the husband and wife did part. She starts dating someone new, her ex gets jealous and turns her in! The call I got this morning related she attempted suicide last night by taking a bunch of pills. .......Sympathy Act Part II . Geeeeesh!!!!!!!

Shared a table with my neighbor at the local elementary school yard sale. Made a couple bucks, got rid of that old Christmas tree that's been replaced and took two boxes to hold. It will now belong to an elderly lady. Got rid of a bunch of other crap and while I was there, my ex came and got the last of his stuff that we agreed he could keep here until he got a permanent place. I feel so liberated. Now starts the real work of going through every damned inch of this place and getting rid of every last bit I don't use, right down to the odd nails in the work shop. Anyone need anything? Just let me know. I'm probably getting rid of one.

No, I fell for a little Hoover. It's smaller, but powerful, more quiet than other machines, can fit under the furniture and gets up fur REALLY well. It has that wind tunnel thing going on, so you can watch your dirt spin when you pick it up. And, probably because it's smaller (and lighter), it was less expensive.

I received news today that a good friend of mine lost their child after 40 hours of labor... stillborn...I don't know why the hell I feel the need to share that on a Packer message board but sharing it I am. Can't sleep... can't imagine the gravity of loss... can't really call anyone at 11:25pm so I'm blowing off steam here... perspective.. it truly puts things in perspective...

Much appreciated Miss Ziggy! Mike says normally a "C" section or some sort of action would be taken after 20 hours or so of labor so I am not sure what went wrong and the timing wasn't right to ask or question. I have never had a child myself. I can only imagine the loss they are feeling.

I am sorry to hear your sad news, EZ. The emotional consequences of losing a child under any circumstances are difficult. The particular problem with stillbirth is that the grieving process can remain undelivered as well; the normal stages of acceptance and healing can be short-circuited. I know you and your friendship will be an important part of the healing process for this couple.

The stunner in our neighborhood is that a former student from my school, a senior, was walking to school yesterday with head down, hood up, earphones in, and then stepped into the roadway to cross the last street before heading into the doorway of his school. Normally a motorist would see this careless young person and brake. In this case, the driver of a city leaf-sucker was distracted as well and, due to the extremely loud equipment, never saw, felt, or heard the young man as his truck dragged the boy for many yards to his death. We have many questions and few answers as to how it could have happened, but the scene was horrific and his classmates from a tightly knit school for troubled young people have yet another traumatic episode to process.

Nope. It's a big site. With many varieties of individuals seeking many different things. I am in the "straight women looking for cool hot men" section. This dude just wandered over from the "XXY" section.

Start by just mixing a tiny bit of the new food into the old food, like 5-10% then gradually increase. She won't notice the difference.

"Cavalia" is coming back to Seattle! I have a privileged small part of history with this show as it pertains to their first run here and how we fed and feted their guests. This was an account to remember, and remember it I do! Feather in my cap this account was. ***sigh*** I am so glad to see it back!

All jest aside my friend... it is an amazing show and it brings me to tears every time I see it. There is a deeper meaning to Normand's show than just Cirque du Soleil with horses.....much more... and he did co-create the original Cirque....

If necessary, one can scrape off the frosting to be consumed separately. (We are on page 69 after all...)

Unfortunately, when scraping the frosting off of the cake, bits of the baked "delight" are still co-mingled with the frosting thus deeming it a tainted tidbit at best. Don't get me wrong however. In keeping with the spirit of page 69 I will admit I have consumed some shitty cakes in my day and in multiple flavors and I always encourage audience particpation.

Too bad . Mr. LUCK just hurt his DRAFT status and now what will Indy do? Actually I cannot see this young man in a REAL Man's game. Watching paint dry is more exciting than watching Luck get to a play. Slowwwww motion is faster.

I probably believe that I do. I cannot see this young man having anymore impact in the NFL than we see fr. a current to 'soon to be former' NY Jets starting QB. He's small...he's slow, too deliberate not very creative IMO. Which current NFL STAR QB can you compare him to. OK lets go back 2-3 decades.

Mr. Luck has the same moxy as..... (fill in the blank). Enlighten me.

My favorite camera shop is closing, so I got a new camera on sale yesterday on my lunch hour. It's my first dSLR a Canon Rebel T3i. I bought it for the flip screen. It's also relatively compact for an SLR. Now I will go get a flash for it and as soon as they come in I can look at macro lenses. Then I can take a class and see if I can figure out how to use this crazy thing.

Back when I was looking for cameras I ended up getting one which was an upgrade from what I had (not saying a lot) but still not what I'm looking for to get good pics of my son's sports. I was thinking without a class I won't know what the hell I'm doing with a fancy camera anyway...lol Well I finally found a place I can take a class! So I want to start looking for a good camera again. Let me know what you think of the Rebel. I'm pretty sure that is the camera that PIP had and pics she showed me of games she attended were very good.

I don't remember what she was using, though I do know it's a Canon. I made the jump up not only because of a good sale, but because with the new shorter commute, I have a lot more time to get out and shoot and learn.

And with the kid going into his teen years, what better way to annoy him if he starts getting obnoxious?
