My passive-aggressive dog!

If I'm busy in kitchen and not showing her attention (and she has no comfy place to lay) she will go to the patio door and scratch like she has to go out and go potty. I walk over, open the door and she turns around and walks away. I go back to what I was doing and the little fart will wait about 10 min. and go back and do the same thing. She has such a self-righteous look on her face when she does it too!!! lol

Warning: Philosophical thinking--I've been trying to wrap my brain around a concept for a future blog post at work. In America, our society rewards people by making them more isolated, further set apart from the social fabric. For example, when we get promoted at work, we move from the cubicle sea where we can hear each other and throw things over the cube walls (depending on the attitudes in your workplace) to an isolated office with a door to close people out. The more we move up, the more real estate we occupy by ourselves until we're in the huge corner office and everyone's afraid to even speak to us. (As I've worked the last several years with top management, I have seen this phenomenon first hand). We move up in the world and into a huge house on an acre lot with neighbors who we have never talked to.

This results in loneliness which society does not allow us to admit to. If you're lonely, it means you have no friends, ergo you are a loser. So we "stand tall" and go to therapy and persist in the notion that our privacy is so paramount that others should not be allowed to intrude. Yet humans are social animals and actually live longer, happier lives when we have a social network that we can spend time with and we can count on in times of crisis.

I work in a company that, compared to many others, is very social. We have learning lunches and pot luck socials on the first Friday of every month. There will be a bowling outing coming up, a St. Patrick's Day party, take your kids to work day, bike to work day, etc. We used to have a Friday happy hour until concerns about driving under the influence caused those to be canceled. I realize that employers bear no responsibility for the social lives of their employees, but I wonder if encouraging social behavior among employees is a way to increase loyalty and engagement, with the side benefit of increasing their interactions. Otherwise, how do we get back to the social systems that our grandparents had? Where if someone went "missing" for a couple of weeks, someone was there to check on them?

Thoughts?

I think one of the main benefits of working is social, but in a subtle way. Just the regular contact with people who you get to know is valuable. Most people who quit a regular job and worked alone miss the banter and work acquaintances. The idea of having a "social life", as in play time, through company-organized activities such as you describe leaves me cold. You can never completely be free at such gatherings, office politics never end. Roll your own social life.

N A farcical new twist the captain of the stricken cruise liner Costa Concordia has denied accusations he abandoned ship, saying he tripped during the panic on deck, and fell overboard into a lifeboat.
Captain Francesco Schettino, 52, told investigating magistrates the Costa Concordia was listing so violently there was nothing he could do to get back on board.

I've always thought that the concept of nothing is very hard to understand. Our lives and thoughts are always filled with something and so although we think we understand nothingness, it is an impossiblity to truely comprehend. We will mentally always fill 'nothing' with something like a color or air. Its like when some tells you not to think about elephants. What do you think about? When some one tells you to clear your mind and think of nothing you start to think of everything.

An e-mail sent moments after replacing a twenty-five year old tank of a three pound solid steel Swingline stapler that had been ravaged by cheap staples procured by the Central Administration Office of Penny Wise and Pound Foolish with another old stapler that had turned up in a supply closet:

Dear (office secretary)

It is immediately apparent why the 2nd Floor Aides Room stapler was abandoned to the First Floor Workroom Supply Closet:

It, like its predecessor, now sucks, having been damaged by substandard staples purchased in someone's zeal to save a buck two eighty on a thousand gross of staples manufactured in Xianzhuang province by five year old orphans and carted by donkey and raft to Industrial Port and Salvage Yard #7, Pong Dung, North Korea.

This is the solution. Kids will respect that you have to fire up a compressor to power the stapler

Did any of you ever read a book called "Paddle to the Sea"? The voyage of a simple toy felt epic, and I found it quite touching. The voyage of Anderson's Steadfast Tin Soldier fascinated me as well. Maybe that is why I enjoyed this video of an unusual tribute to the shuttle program.

Sigh. We have one dog that needs to be put down this week because she can no longer hold her bladder at all. At 14 years old, this is to be expected, but her quality of life no longer supports keeping her. So I finally get through that gut wrenching decision only to have the other one wake up sick this morning. At first I thought she'd just had a seizure which would be no big deal, but she's not getting back to her normal self and has yelped once or twice when one of the other animals touches her. I just hope we can hold out 'til Monday. The doggie emergency room ain't cheap.

Man, that sucks. When my dog was really ill I had a hard time functioning. One tells oneself it's dumb, but dogs, like it or not, become part of the family; we do have responsibility for their health and any undue pain we allow them to suffer. I had almost zero hope for Daisy, who had serious liver issues, and then she rather miraculously pulled through. Copper retention might have been the issue, but we tried three different treatments simultaneously and one of them must have worked.

I hope things turn out okay for your younger one.

She somehow hurt her neck. Vet thinks it's a pinched nerve and gave her some shots and pills, but we concluded while we were waiting for her turn that the emergency vet may be the most depressing place on the planet. But we're home and my wasted dog is standing there staring at me...

I'm really, really sorry to hear about your pup Zigs. Like Swede said, for many of us our pets are like family- hell forget "like family", they ARE family to me. I've been in your position before and decisions like this are very difficult on many levels. My last "go round" was with my 18 year old baby Jefferson. As you say health issues at such an age are to be expected but nothing really makes the decision, and dealing with the finality and emptiness in the wake of that decision, any easier. ***hugs***

Thanks, Cheez. I just wish that when I did actually make the decision, I could have gotten an appointment to get it over with already. I got it set in my mind and have been second guessing it ever since. And then to be at the ER with folks who desperately did not want their young dogs put down, but who had no choice was so very sad.

Yes Woody, 400 M. He's a sophomore, 16, and 6'1 - 6'2

The 400 m was the successor to the 440 yard dash (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/440_yard_dash) or quarter-mile race. As I recall running that race the 440n yards. Your son's time is very solid.

Here's some 400 Meter Race Trivia for you:

The 400 m Sprint.

The 400 metres (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/400_metres) is one lap around the track on the inside lane. Runners are staggered in their starting positions to ensure that everyone runs the same distance. While this event is a sprint (according to some), there is more scope to use tactics in the race; the fact that 400 m times are considerably more than four times a typical 100 m time demonstrates this.
The world record is currently held by Michael Johnson (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Johnson_(athlete)) with a time of 43.18 seconds.
The 4x400 m relay is often held at track and field meetings, and is by tradition the final event at major championships.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Usain_Bolt#Early_competitions

Above is a LINK to give you a comparison of your son'e excellent results in the 400 metrs compared to the worlds best Usain Bolt of Jamaica at his fist competitive meet back in 2001. Performing for Jamaica in his first Caribbean regional event, Bolt clocked a personal best of 48.28 s in the 400 metres (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/400_metres) in the 2001 CARIFTA Games (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CARIFTA_Games), winning a silver medal. Usain Bolt was born 21 Aug. 1986 and in the vital Stat's Dept. he's listed at 6 ft. 5 inchs tall and weighs 207 lbs.

Looking for a more reasonable comparison I found this:

http://www.the400meter.com/

It's great for parents when son'a and daughters are into school sports. That helps so much in a persons growth and development.

CONGRATULATIONS 007.

Oh, mon ami, her appellation is Slapping Sister Cecelia. Shame on you for inferring that I would advocate violence against a holy woman.

I argue that this particular holy woman, with a build like a lightweight champ, may be due her place in Heaven--even if she did slap an auditorium's worth of 4th grade boys along the way. Almost half of them probably deserved it.

Probably shouldn't send a soldier with brain injury back into combat. But our psyche guys are losing it. The ranks of medical students going into psyche has plummeted - residencies are under half-filled. Now what you're getting is what Britain got - a lot of imported docs, with no idea about our culture, no ability to do psychotherapy, and only a capacity to push pills. Plus, you've got raging political correctness in a society with a vacuum for common sense. Not to mention soldiers on multiple, repetitive deployments, and no objective. A toxic collection of circumstances.

I had a similar thought. My first puppy came with a book that suggested the ticking alarm clock technique for soothing the new pup, and I have seen it suggested in print many times since, though I've never known anyone to actually try it.

I was also going to offer to fly over and snore for Zig, but if we both open our windows she might hear me anyway.

I think this is something that might seriously piss Mrs. Swede off. I actually slept well--maybe from not having to worry about it anymore. But it was a sad day, right from when I woke up and automatically looked over to check on her and realized she wasn't there.

My mom's aunt had a cat taxidermied this one time. I'm not sure if it was because she thought she would miss the cat or because she just thought it was funny. She also lived in an asphalt shingle shed with a wood burning oven as her only heat and poached deer to eat, so I think her situation was probably different than yours.

Reminds me of when I was young, and my buddy's parents had a cottage near Crivitz. They would always stop on the way up at some bar in Lena for supper, since the kids wouldn't act up, but instead would wander around looking at the squirrel mounts:

you will probably ruin this to, but Sandals is a decent place, a bit commercial, but nice. Went to the one in Jamaica I know there is more than one, but it was good, the food was ok, not great. Free booze and the sticky stuff was basically free as well.

went to the Palace resort in Cancun for the 5 year ann. 5 years ago and that was better than Sandals, more expensive but I got to play unlimited golf on a Nicklaus designed course. Food was much better, more restaurants on site, and you could go to the adults only resort 15 miles down the beach. Will go back once Mexicans stop kidnapping Americans

We had a WONDERFUL time at the Bahamas. The people that worked at Sandals were nothing but nice and helpful. The ride from the airport to the resort was a little eye opening. The city looked dirty, but once we got to the resort it was a totally different story. The water was so clear. It was all inclusive. Now my wife and I are spoiled because our regular vacation to Myrtle Beach or Pigeon Forge doesn't come close to Nassau. I'd love to go back...especially to the one in Jamaica. It looks beautiful. It did feel a little like slavery, though. It was a bunch of white people enjoying themselves while black people waited on them for no money (tips.)

If they are caught taking tips they lose their job. It is tough, because their are thousands of people applying for those jobs.

It really is sad...most of the people working their had at least one gold tooth because they couldn't afford a tooth colored cap/filling. It makes you sad to think they have to come to work and put on a happy face and listen to a bunch of rich people complain because their drinks need refilled and they go home to a house that you see in the ghetto. I never judge another human being. You got me wrong on that one. (-:

Scott Campbell
04-27-2012, 07:47 AM
And here he is showcasing that stunning lack of judgement:

That needs to go both ways pbmax. That just for a start Sir. How can you place an abusive stalking poster like Scott Campbell on IGNORE when he continually stalks me? How is that certain claim handled by you pbmax..to protect me?

You'll sit there and watch and watch the likes of Scott Campbell do his abuse...the most outrageous garbage posts on and on and on and that's just great. You suspend him and he come back angrier and more beligerant and more viscious then ever and you glorify him.

How can you live with that pbmax?

Placing the likes of Scott Campbell ON ignore ISN'T THE SOLUTION. That hardly gets it done.

You need to institute a Scott Campbell RULE. That Scott Campbell has to stop his outrageous abuse or ban him for life from Packerrats.

Is that such a novel idea? it's my most sincere and honest assessment of Scott Campbell over six difficult years that he should be banned from Packerrats. How often has he been suspended pbmax? Many times...right!

So has that been any deterrant against his abuse? Of course NOT man.

Do the sensable thing and ban him from Packerrats.

If I stand in for myself or fight for respect I'm a really bad member here. BULLSHIT !

I can exercise the IGNORE Function but will SC go away? Not a fricken' chance. He's over the top abusive, oppressive, obsessive and mailiscious. He never lets go because he's SICK.

Scott Campbell has FREE rein. His behaviour is applauded ..as something amusing.

That's a good example of what..............SUCKS !

You have rules for me. A poster that has every right to fight for my dignity and respect.

You have NO RULES for Scott Campbell.

Posters here that imagine they can act just like Scott Campbell 'get in their feeding frenzy'.Thats never going to knock me down. That doesn't make it less challenging. When I'm challenged sometimes I'll have to accept that. That's my human nature.

Why should I be expected to IGNORE such abuse pbmax? That IGNORE feature isn't 'idiot proof' nor is it any blessing on me if he knowing I've got him 'on IGNORE' continyes to slander me.

Cut the head off the snake. Ban Scott Campbell from Packerrats... if he cannot smarten up and stop the abuse.

PLEASE pbmax do the exact right thing for this forum. I realize you do not have sucj power but you can impose on his abuse.

No apology from him is ever sincere. he's clearly a sick man.

Place the ultimate sanction against Scott Campbell..BAN Scott Campbell if he doesn't finally get over his obsessions and abusive slander of me.

It's just this pbmax.

Do you ever imagine I enjoy having to continually post for the respect I'm denied by the likes of Scott Campbell? If you do your mistaken. It's not a challenge it's OLD.

How many times have you read his posts of utter abuse of me. Outrageous abuse. You let that go even when I have him 'on Ignore' and at 'no time' question yourself? What about that is right pbmax? Maybe your not aware of how the ignore feature has this problem? He's even with his buddy Zool ensure I saw his 'dirt' by posting ZOOL to ensure i would. Is that fair or even funny?

Mad asked Scott Campbell and I to place one another on IGNORE. He did so what... months ago. I complied with Mad's request immediately. What did Scott Campbell do?

I respected Mad's request as a 'NO BRAINER'while Scott Campbell ignored Mad and just kept on truckin' his abuse. He never missed a tick. How did that work? His way is to beat a poster to death and then actually post that he likes that poster. That's beyond obsession that's clearly antisocial possibly psychotic behaviour.I'm no psychologist/psychiatrist so unqualified to diagnose Scott Campbell.

Scott Campbell often tells Packerrats that I'm mentally ill. I am NOT mentally ill.

Put yourself in my place for one minutes thought. How would that feel pbmax? From my position it's horrid behaviour on Scott Campbell's part. NOT hardly acceptable.

I'll do my part for Packerrats and put Scott Campbell on IGNORE again. It will be done in less than a minute.

What do you need to do pbmax?Maybe simply 'think'.

I stand by every word I've written above.

It's NOT fair for me to ask for Scott Campbell's banning. I will deal with his abuse as I always have done.

I am confident that Scott Campbell will get all he deserves. Life has it's way of ensuring that.

I retract asking that Scott Campbell be banned forever from Packerrats.

Do you have to connect, or can you get a direct? Oddly, the direct is cheaper, but it doesn't leave until 7 p.m. and comes back Sunday morning at 8 which totally won't work because of the post wedding brunch. If I take a later flight back, it's about $50 more. If I take an earlier flight out so I can spend even a little time with these people, it's $100 more. And a connection.

JOHANNESBURG -- A cat survived after it was tossed around inside a washing machine for almost two hours in Johannesburg, the South African newspaper The Star reported Friday.

Karin Bennett, 63, heard meowing noises coming from close to her washing machine and began to search for her cat Tabitha.

She searched her neighbor's house -- where the adventurous cat likes to visit -- and her kitchen cabinets, oven and fridge but was unable to find the animal.

When her washing machine cycle finished, she went into the laundry and discovered Tabitha's furry face looking back at her through the machine's glass.

The cat was inside the washing machine for one hour and 45 minutes.

Tabitha was treated at a local vet for hypothermia and shock but was not seriously injured during the incident.

"It could happen to anybody. She must have been sleeping in there," Bennett said. "The vet told me she [the cat] had lost seven of her nine lives."

My advice and this is based in my experience. Never place money over a priority of spending quality time with people you love. That always trumps any money concern; and what is a mere $100.00?

Are they the fat ones with the black back ends that kind of hover around and look at you while you're outside?

My daughter and her prom date. When she was young we called her "Marble Eyes." *sigh*

There was a kid in my son's school who tried to bring a dog to the prom, but the principal didn't allow it.

It's nice to see that your daughter's school is more open-minded about water fowl, at least.

Who's the guy in the tie?

Yup...that's them. The ass clowns have been nesting in my log home. I kill them but I need to put something in the holes that will kill them all!

That's not just ANY water fowl.... that's my Cat That's A Duck Named Jaques- (yes.... duck.... he doesn't know any different and we don't want to burst the bubble) The dude in the tie is tasked with making sure that Jaques doesn't leave behind any "unwelcome carpet splattage".

We take a board and play baseball with them here. They have no stingers. I'm sure wasp and hornet killer in the hole should take care of the rest of them.
