Wait a second there Hetero Cowboy.... the hetero male is the one doing the proverbial, traditional "pounding" (although we "fems" can "pound back" with y'all... we sometimes let you think you're in control and all, but, anyway... hence the beauty of the sexual "ballet") sooooo... what exactly are you sayin'? He didn't... not receiving a response he then said, in a much louder tone of voice, "PACK HUH".... I still ignored... He then shouted "GO STEELERS"... I didn't miss a beat... looked him in the eye and said "Suck my dick".... his friends burst out in laughter, offender male recoiled, mission accomplished...that may sound uneventful or banal... but... let me tell you, it sure as hell shut that POS up.... J. Paul Getty III, 54, Dies; Had Ear Cut Off by Captors
By BRUCE WEBER

J. Paul Getty III, who was a grandson of the oil baron once believed to be the richest man in the world and who achieved tragic notoriety in 1973 when he was kidnapped by Italian gangsters, died Saturday at his home near London. He was 54.

His son, the actor Balthazar Getty, confirmed the death in a statement relayed in an e-mail from Laura Hozempa, one of his agents. Mr. Getty had been wheelchair-bound since 1981, when a drug overdose caused him to have a stroke that left him severely paralyzed, unable to speak and partly blind.

At the time of his abduction, Mr. Getty was just 16 and living on his own in Rome, where his father, J. Paul Getty II, had, for a time, helped oversee the family’s Italian business interests.

Expelled from a private school, the young Mr. Getty was living a bohemian life, frequenting nightclubs, taking part in left-wing demonstrations and reportedly earning a living making jewelry, selling paintings and acting as an extra in movies. He disappeared on July 10, 1973, and two days later his mother, Gail Harris, received a ransom request. No longer married, she said she had little money.

“Get it from London,” she was reportedly told over the phone, a reference either to her former father-in-law, J. Paul Getty, the billionaire founder of the Getty Oil Company, or her former husband, who lived in England.

The amount demanded was about $17 million, but the police were initially skeptical of the kidnapping claim; even after Ms. Harris received a plaintive four-page letter from her son, and a subsequent phone call in which a man saying he was a kidnapper offered to send her a severed finger as proof he was still alive. Investigators suspected a possible hoax or an attempt by the young Mr. Getty to squeeze some money from his notoriously penurious relatives.

“Dear Mummy,” his note began, “Since Monday I have fallen into the hands of kidnappers. Don’t let me be killed.”

The eldest Mr. Getty refused to pay the kidnappers anything, declaring that he had 14 grandchildren and “If I pay one penny now, I’ll have 14 kidnapped grandchildren.” His son said he could not afford to pay.

Three months after the abduction, the kidnappers, who turned out to be Calabrian bandits with a possible connection to organized crime, cut off Mr. Getty’s ear and mailed it, along with a lock of his hair, to a Roman newspaper. Photographs of the maimed Mr. Getty, along with a letter in which he pleaded with his family to pay his captors, subsequently appeared in another newspaper. Eventually the kidnappers reduced their demands to around $3 million. According to the 1995 book, “Painfully Rich: The Outrageous Fortune and Misfortunes of the Heirs of J. Paul Getty” by John Pearson, the eldest Mr. Getty paid $2.2 million, the maximum that his accountants said would be tax deductible. The boy’s father paid the rest, though he had borrow it from his father — at 4 percent interest.

The teenager, malnourished, bruised and missing an ear, was released on Dec. 15; he was found at an abandoned service station, shivering in a driving rainstorm. Nine men eventually were arrested. Two were convicted and sent to prison; the others, including the man prosecutors said was the head of the Calabrian Mafia and the mastermind behind the abduction, were acquitted for lack of evidence.

The aftermath of the ordeal left Mr. Getty as a reckless personality; the year after his release he married a German photographer whose name has been variously reported as Gisela Zacher and Martine Zacher. They lived for a time in New York, where they consorted with the downtown art crowd of Andy Warhol. Mr. Getty became a drug user and a heavy drinker, reportedly becoming addicted to cocaine and heroin. His grandfather had died in 1976, and after his overdose, he sued his father for $28,000 a month to pay for his medical needs.

Mr. Getty’s marriage ended in divorce. Beside his son, survivors include his mother, who cared for him after his stroke; a brother, Mark; two sisters, Aileen and Ariadne; a stepdaughter, Anna Getty, and six grandchildren and stepgrandchildren.

Some time after Mr. Getty’s release, his mother suggested he call his grandfather to thank him for paying the ransom, which he did. The eldest Mr. Getty declined to come to the phone.

So, I'm thinking of ditching DirecTV. I did the math, and it seems that since I don't watch anything on DTV besides football, that it would cost $71.25 per game to watch the games provided none of the games were on regular TV. Since some of the games are on regular TV, it costs even more per game. If two games are broadcast nationally, and I'm only watching 14 games per season on DTV, then the cost per game becomes $81.43. For that kind of money, it would be cheaper to go to the sports bar to have dinner and watch the game, no?

I've been thinking the exact same thing. I get most of my news off the internet anyway. NFL playoffs, Super Bowl, World Series, NCAA Basketball Tourney are all on network T.V. still.

I'm thinking of taking it a step further. I'm not sure I can justify my cost of a cell phone given how many calls I make. Getting rid of it would drive some family members crazy, but they'd adjust.

To be honest, the cost savings from losing satellite would be directly applied to the phone bill as I've now upgraded the service to a smartphone which I use a whole lot more than DTV. I also use the barcode scanning apps (has saved me a bit of $$ already) and navigation a whole lot. It was nice to be downtown yesterday and in two clicks, get a map with all of our options for lunch in a mile radius. It was also nice to be able to see when the next train was going to show up at the station because they're doing maintenance all weekend. Don't get me started on the wisdom of closing all of the train stations near the presidential monuments on president's day weekend. Idiots.

You have to click around a little bit in the kids section. They show 21 on the home screen broken down into categories. If you click on the category, it gives you more choices. For example, there are about 50 titles under Critics Picks, and some of them are really good (like Up).

“She’s small, but she’s got a lot of leg on her,” Clarke said.

The Buena Vista horse trainer traded three harnesses for Thelma, who proved herself a lead dog in her first Iditarod. Clarke and his wife Linda nicknamed her “The General.”

If other dogs are goofing around behind her, Thelma “turns around and barks at them,” Linda said. “She takes her job very seriously."

Thelma’s sister, Louise, didn’t make the team this year.

So my sweetie flew off to Paris this week, my kid got a new cell phone AND new shoes and it's already too quiet around here. And the dog has Lyme disease. Again. And her heart murmur is worse. Not sure I can justify the cost of a dog cardiologist. The good news is that the insane 13-year-old mutt is in perfect health. If nothing else, the socks will get sorted and the blanket I'd been working on will get done. Maybe some shopping...

You have to re-calibrate. When it is 40 degrees and raining sideways it will be okay to let the big yellow bus head out of town without you. If your son is like my son you can hear all about it when he gets home:

Yeah, this is stressing me out! Are things so political at the school your son goes to Swede? Jeeeez, the football coaches put all this pressure on the boys to run track. The track coaches are always fighting with the baseball coaches cause they don't want the boys doing both. So basically the boys that want to run track get penalized by the baseball coaches for not being at everything they want them to be at. The track season officially ends after baseball officially starts....by like 3 weeks. So my boy will only be able to be at 1 week of baseball practice before the first game. So we've already had the baseball coach giving us the "look". What the hell!!! Let these kids be active in as many things as they want...........especially as Freshman!!!! There is the wood bat league that is starting now that all the "serious" baseball players are supposed to join to get in shape for regular season. I didn't sign my son up for that because it would interfere with track.......again, we got the "look". It will really tick me off if they hold this against him during the baseball season. I got him a membership at the baseball academy (indoor hitting facility) for 3 months during the winter and he was there 3-4 nights a week. I would think that would show he's serious about baseball. I feel bad for him, he loves track and he loves baseball and is being made to feel he can't do both. I seriously hope he does well in track and then starts baseball late and kicks ass this year!!!! Stinks coaches are being jerks about this they should encourage well rounded athletes. Yeah, so that's my rant! :)

Yeah, hate to burst your bubble but there will come a day when your beautiful, precious, sweet children become teenagers and no longer think you know ANYTHING! :) Pretty much anything you tell them ....from experience, they tell you that things are different now. (yeah, well, not really smartass!! lol) Oh, and this is my favorite....my son: "why are you staring at me?" That is so stupid. These kids will only be young enough to do what they want for a little while longer. Maybe explain to the baseball coach about repetitive use sports injuries that are common among overtrained youth baseball players? Then tell him to shove his "look" up his ass (at the end of his senior season, of course).

HAH! BOSOX are 0 and 6... next up... Yankees... at 4-2... just one behind Baltimore and tied with Toronto...Go YANKS! I think this is Boston's worst start since the 1940's.... but as much acrimony as there is between these two teams, I will say this... at least my friend can attend Red Sox games in Boston wearing his "Yanks Gear" and not get beat into a coma like Bryan Stow was in Los Angeles. It's BASEBALL PEOPLE...FAMILY... KIDS ARE THERE! At least at Safeco I feel safe... no matter the gear I sport... and I sport "Yankee Gear" at every game I attend. OK… I guess my pilot light never has stopped burning for the Mariners in some ways. I was a kid in 1977 when I moved here from Tennessee, it was the debut year of the franchise. Back then, there were no major league sports teams in Nashville. This city, this team, the Kingdome it all seemed so larger than life….so “glamorous” and so “big town” to me.

Then there was “the voice”. He was with us and our franchise from the beginning. You don’t realize how much you can take something for granted until it is gone. You don’t realize how someone you have never met can infiltrate your heart and soul on such a deep and almost familial level. That was Dave Niehaus. He was with “us” from the beginning. He was family, “our” family.

I remember exactly where I was when I heard Dave had passed. I started to cry and then I tried to catch myself and stop but I couldn’t. I couldn’t grasp why I was feeling so overwhelmed. I couldn’t mentally grasp at that moment just how this gentleman affected the fiber of our town and really took root in us; my emotions obviously were in full swing before my intellect. Then, I looked around me… I was not alone. Everyone around me was silent, tears streaming down their cheeks and looks of disbelief on their faces. It was like the city’s heart collectively stopped for a moment. We never thought it would end.

Even when the Mariners were at their worst, and that has been quite a bit, you could not help but tune in to listen to him, he made it bearable, laughable, fun... even in the most dark days. “MY OH MY… IT’S GRAND SALAMI TIME!”…and when the Mariners were at their best, 1995, Dave made it oh so much sweeter.

Now… tonight….it’s opening night at Safeco Field. Marilyn, Dave’s widow, is throwing out the first ball. It’s close to game time and I have butterflies in my stomach. Our hearts are heavy yet it’s time for us to face the Season without our friend.

Today was the first day it has been sunny, spectacularly beautiful actually, in 41 days here in Seattle. I like to think that somehow God made this day for Dave.

The Mariners… love ‘em, hate ‘em, indifferent to them… doesn’t’ matter tonight. Seattleites are all Mariners Fans tonight. Dave is with us all tonight.I don’t think there will be a single soul in Seattle that won’t be tuned in. So… I’ve dusted off my white “Dave Loafers”, popped a glass of Chardonnay and am getting ready to settle in to what will surely be a night to remember. God Bless you Dave…. your "voice" will never be "silenced" and your presence will always be felt.

(Macklemore may not be the best artist on the planet, but this song has the tears streaming...kinda speaks for us all tonight)

YES! We had the Pilots!! Mike bought a Pilot's Jersey for me... (it was an overseas "knock off" but it's amazingly authentic looking and really good quality believe it or not- enough so that Wisconsin and Washington fans alike and "in the know" stop me and make comments about it... all positive and wanting to know where to get one- cool! :)) and of course then promptly informed me of the Milwaukee move and kinda rubbed in his superior baseball knowledge! lol!

I don't think (haven't checked yet) the Brewers could have POSSIBLY played a worse game than the Mariners tonight. Right now it is the bottom of the fifth inning and we are losing to the frickin' Indians 12-0....but you know what...it doesn't matter... there is such a cool vibe going on (even though in the fourth inning, I think it was, I actually heard a player drop the "F" bomb on our local station..lolz!)...OH WAIT... STOP THE PRESSES.. GOOD NEWS... we just got a run!!! YAY! 12-1... now we're cookin'... runners on first and second with two outs?.. no problem... anyway... I digress...

Back to the "cool vibe"... I can only imagine Dave calling this game... you can feel the positive vibe in the stadium, it is palpable and indisputable and delicious....no matter what the score board says!!!

I hear what you're sayin' about those memories... I compartmentalized mine and they came back ten fold with the passing of Mr. Niehaus.

PS Whiskey...

You'll be happy to know that the Yankees took a dump to the BOSOX today... lol! That shit pitcher we had in there was "yanked" (if you will) after only two innings and giving up, I think it was, 6 legit runs to Boston... :) I still loves me some Yankees though!

Then again... that could just be the "sensitive" in me talking.... PFFFFT!

Got it... cool... just didn't seem so when I first viewed.... I've had other folks on here say some pretty rude things to me so I guess I'm running a little on the defensive sometimes... can we make up over some...

No, I'm not having a stroke. I just got de-funded as of the end of the fiscal year. I have two months to figure out exactly what I want to do about that.

Been there, done that

Everyone has. Odd though, I've not really heard of getting two months warning...I'll take it though. It's a bit of luxury getting time to assess and refine what it is I want to pursue next while I keep getting my salary.

Just for you, I had a shot of Tequipal that I brought back from Mexico a couple weeks ago. You can't see it in the picture, but the bottle says 17% alcohol by volume.

Thanks for the tip, Brando. I love those types of films if they're done well.

Swede, I know a similarly poor joke. Prolly better left in the Blue Cheese forum.
