  • Packers - Steelers -- Superbowl 45

    Packers - Steelers -- Superbowl 45

Opening line is Packers by 2 1/2 points.

Could this be any better of a match up ? Dom Capers vs Dick Le Beau

This is the game I had always hoped for in a Super Bowl. The team with the most Lombardi trophy's against the team with the most Titles. Awesome!

  • Truly Special Teams

    Truly Special Teams

for all the crap they took this year. its time they get their own attaboy thread. for all the talk this week about how the bears were going to have the advantage in field position due bears superior special teams. the packers were clearly better in all aspects of special teams yesterday. masthey 5 punts inside the 20 with a long of 65 Hester with only 13 punt return yards on 3 returns. Coverage was great. if i remember right there were 2 or 3 downed inside the 10. (the last touchba...

  • Why no FG's?

    Why no FG's?

Gould has attempted only 9 FGs of 50+ in six years, and four of them were this year. I suspect most were either in the best of conditions, or situations when there was really no other choice. I have seen the Bears pass up 45-50 yarders in not horrible conditions. Gould does not have a strong leg for FGs, but he is accurate under 45 yards or so. In contrast, Crosby has attempted 21of 50+ in just 4 years. The overall league average for FGs of 50+ has been about 50-55% the last 10 seasons. I...

  • wow. lots of talk about the running games

wow. lots of talk about the running games

Discounting the D's run game numbers is a dangerous game. Now I am all for limiting big pass plays even if it means giving something up in the run D. The improvement in scoring D this year is evidence that this has been worth it. But there is a danger in the tradeoff. Some dope at JSO today subtracted the QB rushing statistics from the Packers Run D and proclaimed them second best in the league. I couldn't find a clear headed individual that mentioned the comparison no longer was meaningful since...

  • How good can Sam Shields become?

How good can Sam Shields become?

Sam Shields is absolutely the real deal. After the season he has had he would start for the majority of teams in the NFL. If you're not sold yet you will be soon enough, doubt not. I'm not at all convinced that Underwood or Lee could have held their own. Playing cornerback in the NFL is a hard job where weakness will be exposed (see the Vikings secondary). The fact that he never had a brutal game, and in fact was rarely beaten over an entire season is proof that he is a good cornerback. Furthermore...

    The Offseason

    David Akers has been named to the Pro-Bowl five times and a first team All-Pro four time. Let's compare: Overall: Akers - 294/359 81.9% Crosby - 107/137 78.1% 0-19 yards Akers - 5/5 100% Crosby - 4/4 100% 20-29 yards Akers - 95/96 99% Crosby - 36/37 97.3% 30-39 yards Akers - 96/109 88.1% Crosby - 31/38 81.6% 40-49 yards Akers - 83/117 70.9% Crosby - 26/37 70.3% 50+ Akers - 15/32 46.9% Crosby - 10/21 47.6% Two things jump out at me, looking at those stats: - The difference at 30-...

    The Offseason

The Packers can get along without the often injured Jenkins, they have plenty of depth along the defensive line, I would like them to resign Howard Green for a veterans min, so you have three large bodies in Raji, Pickett, and Green. Along youngsters at Defensive End in Wynn, Wilson, and Neal. Drafting a defensive end in the the early rounds of the 2011 draft wouldn't be a bad statedgy either. The Packers have a lot of linebackers under contract in 2010 but not many have a future cemented wi...

  • The Question

    The Question

We had two 4th quarter drives. On the first one, we got a first down by running the ball and then got into 3rd and 1 on our next set of downs. We ran the ball. It's really hard to fault a team for trying to run it on 3rd and 1. Sorry, I just don't see the big deal there. On the second one, we ran it twice like most teams and tried throwing on third down and got sacked. I could see throwing play action on 2nd down, but I just can't get that worked up about the play calling when I disagreed with one...

  • McCarthy and "Close Games"

    McCarthy and "Close Games"

Harv answered about Tomlin so I will take Caldwell. He took over a Super Bowl caliber team (including Super Bowl caliber offensive assistants Moore and Howard Mudd) and took it to the Super Bowl. He went 14-2 (impressive under any condition) while playing in a bad AFC South Division. In three years, this might indicate that Caldwell is under-appreciated currently and is indeed a top ten coach. But right now, to me, he seems closer to Barry Switzer or Brian Billick. Judging the Colts this year i...

    McCarthy and "Close Games"

I see the points the others are making. MM has done a great job working with the team. The players respect him. They talk to him. He's great at working with the super-ego's in the NFL. He's done an amazing job with Rodgers and it looks like Flynn too. He's incredibly flexible, creative and innovative. He'll find ways to attack defenses weaknesses that are just awesome. Overall, I like him in the top 6-10 range of coaches and I still think he has a chance to be a SB winner. He has enough strengths...

  • New NFL Kickoff Rule Adopted
    by Joemailman
It passed 29-3. Packers were one of 3 teams voting against it.

Kickoffs will remain at the 35-yard line, but the remaining 10 players on the kicking unit will line up at the opposing team's 40-yard line. The receiving team lines up with at least seven players in the "set-up zone," a five-yard area between their own 35- and 30-yard lines, with a maximum of two returners can line up in the landing zone. After the ball is kicked, the kicker cannot cross the 50-yard line and the 10 ...

  • The Lions Report
    by Fritz
Well, this is the year - or so 99% of the fans in Detroit think - that the Lions get a big, meaningful "W" on Thanksgiving Day. Many many talking heads have reminded folks that this is reminiscent of the 1962 Turkey Day game - the 10 - 0 Packers coming in to town - and in that game the Lions' defensive line, lead by Alex Karras, shredded the Packer offensive line, dumping Bart Starr over and over and leading the Leos to a whupping of the Pack. The Lions feature a talented, deep defensive line. Ndama...
