GBM has heard from A-Rod that he'd demand a trade this year if he wasn't starting.

With all due respect, if the mainstream media is screwing things up, sorry if I'm more than skeptical of a poster on an internet message board.

It's ok, I don't blame you for being skeptical. I mean some people on here lie about the stupidest things, gets old after a while.

I stand behind what I said though ..... Aaron told one of my best friends that if he wasn't starting this year, he would demand a trade elsewhere.

Why? So they could cut one? I could see them taking a guy that has a chance to compete with Rodgers for the starting spot in two years, but drafting a guy like Flynn with Favre, Rodgers, and Brohm on the roster would seem like a wasted draft pick. Teams don't carry 4 QBs often. I'm sure Favre would have been really happy about that--since he wasn't too happy with the Rodgers pick.

In a way, Favre brought that pick upon himself. If Favre had said "I'm playing for "X" more years, than maybe that pic doesn't happen. Sure, you can argue that TT took the BPA, but if Favre had said "I'm playing 'til 2007" than maybe TT goes after a different player, knowing he can pick up a QB next year or the year after that.

Those drafted QBs that cut had at least had a shot at making the roster. With Favre, Rodgers, and Brohm on the roster already, there's no chance of him making the roster--unless there's an injury. Even if the second QB had outplayed Brohm, he wouldn't make the team over a 2nd round pick. To me, that would be the same as drafting another kicker when you have Mason Crosby. Could it happen? Possibly. Likely? Far from it. I doubt they would have drafted Flynn if they had Favre, Rodgers, and Brohm on the roster already.

Which is a joke--since he was the one that had been playing the retirement waffle game for a few years already. What's the team supposed to do? Not plan for the future at the game's most important position when their starter thinks about retirement every offseason. If the team hadn't started planning for the future, then Thompson would have been blasted. (He can't win when it comes to Favre.) That picked worked out perfectly (well, without this circus). Rodgers sits on the bench for 3 years and when Favre does retire, we have his replacement ready to go.

I think you could have use a better analogy than kickers, as Crosby was drafted last year and he was kept over Dave Rayner.

No. Rayner wasn't a good kicker. He was average. Drafting somebody to compete with him was the right thing. Crosby is a good kicker. Drafting somebody to take over if he got injured would have been silly.

Perhaps...but it is a damn 7th round pick. The chances of getting anyone who would even make the roster are slim to none.

That is absolutely true. People also forget the "draft experts" had predicted for at least two years before that that Sherman would pick a QB to begin grooming as Favre's replacement since he could go at any time. Sherman even admitted that he was very interested in Losman, and as much as said he would have taken him if he had been available.

The Rodgers pick has always seemed to irk Favre, but to wait to find a replacement until after Favre retired would have been foolish.

I think it irked Favre more at the time than it does now.

McNabb was irked when the Eagles took Kolb. Jones was irked when the Packers took Nelson. That is simply the way it goes...players aren't happy when other guys are brought in as "competition", but business is business and the players understand that as well, even if they still don't like it.
