IMO, Manti was victimized by a sick sophisticated sophmoric hoax. In Hawaii there is always much jealousy/resentment with success on the national and international level. There is saying in Hawaii about the not allowing the crab in the bucket to escape and hitting down the nail that sticks out.

In Hawaii and Polynesia being gay is not an issue since it is part of the culture and everyone lives together. It is open and embraced. Rainbow is still part of the University of Hawaii's athletic nicknames.
