I wonder how that compares to what the Packers were really offering as a restructure.

      • Anders Carlson was released by the Jets, leaving them with two kickers who are both rookies. I guess his NFL experience didn't mean much.

Experience missing kicks isn't highly regarded.

            Good one!

As for Alexander, IF his father is to be believed, he'd have taken the same deal he got from the Ravens to stay with the Packers. Again, IF the dad is to be believed, he said the Packers wanted most all but the vet min part to be in terms of roster bonuses, based on availability. Basically allowing the team to decide week-to-week if they wanted to keep him.

Again, IF that is true - who knows? - it would seem the Packers were really not all that keen to keep Alexander, period. Guaranteeing four mill for one year seems just fine for the team's finances, but it would appear that the team really doesn't trust Alexander and lowballing him was a way to shrug, say "we tried," and then cut him. It sounds like the team just really didn't want him unless it was absolutely on their terms.

But all predicated on the IF of his father's version of events.

            • I'm sure his father wouldn't shade the truth to make his son look better. But even so I think his old man said basically the same deal but guaranteed money. I.E. he was quibbling about a training camp cut since a veteran like Jaire has the salary guaranteed the first day he makes the roster. I'm just not buying it, but even if I do buy it its a bullshit argument. If the packers made that EXACT offer he would have rejected it because he was convinced someone was going to give him a lot more than that. If dad is to be believed GB offered him a virtually identical deal but he would have had to make the opening roster. If he didn't, he would have been free to sign with anyone. Thats as good of a deal as the Ravens basically saying this is it and you are locked to us for this money.

              • Not exactly on subject, but interesting. And one more thing to make me feel old.

Four-star wide receiver Kaydon Finley, the son of Super Bowl XLV champion Jermichael Finley, announced his commitment to Notre Dame over Texas on Friday, sealing the Fighting Irish's latest ESPN 300 addition to coach Marcus Freeman's incoming class.

Finley, a 6-foot-1 pass catcher who plays for Texas powerhouse Aledo High School, is ESPN's No. 114 overall prospect in the 2026 cycle. He lands with Notre Dame following official visits with the Irish, Arizona State, Texas and Texas A&M this spring and is the 16th ESPN 300 pledge in the program's fourth-ranked 2026 recruiting class.

                • He has a ring but it feels a little wrong calling Finley a SB champion, considering he only played in five games to start that season. Like Barnett and Grant, he really didn't contribute to the 2010 championship run too much.

Not that it matters, but Kaydon Finley is one ugly lookin' dude.

They barely made the playoffs, on tie-breakers, so any win he contributed to was important.

iirc us not drafting desean jackson is why we made the playoffs. They should have sent him a ring.

That’s like saying it’s wrong to call Robert Brooks a Super Bowl champion cos he missed a shitload of games in 96.

J-Mike fucked his knee recovering Donald Fucking Lee’s fumble, for fuck’s sake. Show some fucking respect.

Good gosh; you act like Finley did something heroic.

I get your point, but it is not disrespectful to simply state the fact that Brooks and Finley, through no fault of their own, did not make big contributions to winning the super bowl. Same for Nick Barnett, Brad Jones, Mark Tauscher, Morgan Burnett and a few others who went on IR early in the season. That is part of what made that season special, winning it all in spite of little contribution from those players.

I'm a bit surprised to see that his son plays football. Finley has been outspoken at times about the toll that injuries take on players lives.

His exact words were, “it feels wrong calling Finley a Super Bowl champion.”

J-Mike is every fucking ounce of a Super Bowl champion as Butte is. To say otherwise is disrespectful.

This seems the right spot for me to chime in with my usual "Robert Brooks woulda been a Packer HOFer and maybe more if he hadn't gotten hurt" spiel. I just think he was a pretty special wide receiver, and I was really bummed when he suffered that serious injury. I don't think he's as appreciated as he ought to have been, as far as his talent level.
