Cook/make 1 thing for a team dinner, help with a homecoming float, donate $10 for us to put a nice basket together for an auction.....ummm...anything? There is a small group that does everything. Don't get it.

20/80 rule: 20% of people do 80%of the work. As long as stuff gets done, parents will assume you have it covered. The only thing I can think of is plan an event that sounds nice, remind parents that involvement in their kids school is what makes life more fun, and then cancel it for lack of parental participation--but that's not very nice.

You have to reel them in early. Hold a very public volunteer parents "thank you" event. Have the school put in the newsletter a "parent volunteer of the year" or make some sort of incentive for the kids whose parents participate (increases pressure from the kids to have their parents involved) sort of like the prizes they give for the fundraisers. If you use your imagination, it doesn't have to cost anything. My kid's elementary school auctions off activities with teachers and staff every year and holds a volunteer luncheon every year.

                      • Bought a chair at Ikea, stuffed it into my little car and brought it home. Totally wrong in the house. I don't thing without the packaging, I'll be able to stuff it back into the car to get it back there. My BFF with the SUV is out of town today. Interesting day for problem solving.

What it there to understand? Because you know when it is all done and the celebration or the party or the fun parts kick in all the lazy fucks will show up.

How about if you volunteer with your kids so you spend time together doing some good, they get a lesson in hard work, and your sorry ass sobers up for an hour or two.
