But BF isn't you or me. Retired, not retired, whatever the GB Packers owned his rights. If he showed up in GB and laced them up he got something like $12,000,000. He didn't have a right to go anywhere else. I'm sure 99.5% of all Americans don't have exclusive rights contracts with their employer.

I have a non-compete so I can't leave my firm and join another firm in the area and continue to work with my same client base. Even if I retired I would have to wait 12 months from practicing in the same area without forfeiting my retirement bonus.

BF could do radio, TV etc.. He just couldn't play for any other NFL team while under contract with the Packers.
But Rodgers leads the league in frumpy expressions and negative body language on the sideline, which makes him, like Josh Allen, a unique double threat.

Sounds like you want to give him a free pass.

      Let's look at the facts:
      1. BF was under contract with the Packers
      2. BF retired
      3. BF wanted to return but on his terms (gets starting spot back)
      4. BF was traded to the NYJ under the same contract
      5. BF "retires" again saying he is done
      6. BF asks for his release (I thought he was done, why does he need to get out of his contract?)
      7. BF toys with MINN but says no
      8. BF signs with MINN once training camp is over

It also seems like you're happy to hate on the haters!
Like I said he retired, changed his mind it happens. GB didn't want him saying they had someone better, yet didn't have the balls to let him go where HE wanted. Brett didn't ask for his release from the Jets, they released him after drafting Sanchez. Finally he gave Mn an answer by a deadline, they were not happy with the answer and kept courting.
      A couple of points.
      1. BF asked for his release from the NYJ, the NYJ didn't release him on their own accord. In fact, he asked before the draft and was told NO by the Jets.
      2. TT got enough crap for moving on from BF. It would have been ten fold had he gotten no compensation for a player under contact and let him walk to a team in the NFC North. (That would have made me shout for TT's head)
But Rodgers leads the league in frumpy expressions and negative body language on the sideline, which makes him, like Josh Allen, a unique double threat.

I believe both are sitting at 23 playoff games right now.
He'll have a hard time getting the record for Superbowl wins, though.

No wonder you back Favre so strongly, you don't understand half the details of what actually happened.

If only it were so simple as he retired and changed his mind. And yes, he did ask the Jets for his release and his reasoning for it was "just because". He retired, and then asked the Jets for his release twice. The first time they said no to him. They granted his release the second time because they had drafted Sanchez.

I'd also like to add one other event into the timeline, think it should fit between #5 and #6.

Brett books a large block of hotel rooms in GB the weekend of the GB-Minn game despite the fact he is still under contract with the Jets.
Shall we also add in the part about him talking to the Lions about the Packers' signals and game plans.

          Fuck him

It does happen. But, if you retire you aren't ENTITLED to your old job back. Simple as that.

Next, you can't just retire and go to work for another company. Bert had a contract and we did nothing wrong by holding him to it. All top firms have no compete contracts with their top talent.

Lastly, you are flat out wrong about the Jets. Bert retired, gave a speech saying he was done and praising Woody Johnson and stating how he would not play again and how great he had been treated. They released him after he RETIRED.

Your refusal to face reality is troubling.

Those of us you label haters at least have faced reality.

Funny that STILL no one has addressed the context that the above statement was cherry-picked from. It was a rather detailed post that folks seem not to be able to handle...

And by the way, Archer, Favre WAS invited back but refused to come. He was not rejected by the Packers, he rejected them because he refused to compete with Rodgers. Would he have won I wonder? Methinks he had his doubts. Please do not argue about paragraph 2 without addressing paragraph 1. Just saves both of us time because you know the response you'll get.

And for the record, I must not be bitter then, because I'm pretty damned happy right now. But I can be happy and still extremely disappointed in our former quarterback and want him and his whole team to lose on Sunday. See how easy that is...

No, it doesn't matter. I refrained for a long time getting caught up in the argument and then let myself slip the last couple days. I know better and really don't care what anyone thinks to be honest. I'm completely at peace with everything FAVRE related. I would be happy if he played for the Packers, Vikings, Jets or even retired. I just enjoy watching him play and would love to see him go out on top. ....that's all, really. I don't care what happened 2 years ago because I don't pretend to know everything that happened behind closed doors.

So as long as this thread still exists, I would encourage any and all members that still support Favre and enjoy having a place to keep up with news, to do just that....and nothing more. Ignore the banter, or negative remarks that entice arguments.

I was thinking the same thing after skimming thru the last few pages of detailed explanations of why we should love him or hate him. No sense in trying to convince either side one way or another. My posts in this thread have, for the most part, been directed towards the posters and readers who want to see him finish a great career on top. I too will just ignore the negativity and respond to the positive.

                          • I remember in the post game interview after the first Viking Favre vs. Packers game on Monday Night when some chick reporter compared the situation to a man/woman break up and Favre got all incredulous face looking and stuff.....I think there are a lot of similarities, and agree with the reporter. And Favre's overly dramatic response means he gets it too.

To quote the way too overly used phrase, the whole Favre thing “is what it is.”

When you are in a long term relationship, a lot of times people end up to doing destructive things just because they are comfortable. The same thing was true with Favre and Packer fans. I blame Packer fans just as much for his leaving as what he did. He would heave up interceptions in playoff games or pull the old “Gunslinger” routine and we all ate it up. It was symbiotic. We needed him, and he just kept on doing his thing. Anything but the Dan Devine or Forrest Gregg years PLEASE!!!! So he throws the ball away, look where he brought us.

Now, we all wonder....how is it that he only throws seven interceptions? Why is he so in control? It can't be the coach. This year isn't like Holmgren where there was actually some semblance of control......clearly by the last few weeks of this season. (Now I go back to my relationship analogy)....It's because he got his head out of his ass and started to play like he knew he could because he had to re-prove himself. The classic lose 25 pounds and get a new haircut after you break up. It gave him new life and he wanted to prance past the old girlfriend with his new hot gal too, so there was plenty of incentive.

HE NEVER WOULD HAVE HAD THE NUMBERS HE HAS THIS YEAR HAD HE STAYED WITH THE PACKERS.

We have a 26 year old quarterback who had a quarterback rating over 100 this year and makes me, as a Packer fan, adjust the way I watch games. I still am nervous waiting for the bizzaro throw that turns into seven points for the other team......but every week I slowly am turning into a fan that understands our new quarterback. It is a thing of beauty watching how he manages the game. And he is 26.

Favre may win the Super Bowl this year....and by the way, they were talking about how they should put him on the “Ring of Fame” in the Mall of America Dome ASAP today on KFAN up here.....imagine that! Favre could be on the ring of fame in Minnesota before he is in Green Bay.

I am OK with it all. I think we are much better off with Rodgers right now and in the future. Favre NEVER would have put up the numbers he did this year had he stayed in Green Bay. He acted like an assclown when it all first went down, but I get the sense he realizes what a fool he was (see: break up analogy).

What do I think of Favre on the Vikings? I don't.

                            It is what it is.
After lunch the players lounged about the hotel patio watching the surf fling white plumes high against the darkening sky. Clouds were piling up in the west… Vince Lombardi frowned.
