I respect that and that some have no desire to follow his career anymore. I've never promoted all packer fans to continue to support Brett. My only problem is the hatred that is continued to be expressed.
Let them hate. Brett doesn't need his fans to stand up for him. If it doesn't hurt you any, just leave it be. As frustrated as you've become at the apparent hatred of the guy, there are just as many that are just as frustrated at the stubborn defense of him. That's how the personal attacks begin. That's what keeps fueling this fight. Both sides are guilty. This fight would die off naturally if people on both sides would cease thier attack on one another, even if the attack/defense of Favre continues.

So let them hate. You continue your support. And hopefully both sides will eventually be able to simply leave it at that without getting into the argument over the question that has stirred up all the trouble in the first place - why. It doesn't matter why you support him or why we hate him. It doesn't matter THAT you support him or THAT we hate him. It just doesn't matter, does it?

Brett didn't have to be a Walmart greeter. He didn't have to be a New York Jet. He didn't have to be a Minnesota Viking. He could have still been the QB for the Packers, according to statements from both the Favre camp and the Thompson camp. He just didn't want to have to win the job. From Brett's own mouth, on Greta, "Why?"

It's not that the Packers didn't want him back, they just didn't want to simply hand him the starting gig without a competiton. And lets be honest, after watching both QB's in starting roles over the past 2 seasons, that would be one helluva competition. Brett could have won it. Brett could have remained our QB. But there's a chance Brett would have lost, and that chance alone scared him away. He didn't want to play for anyone where there was even a chance he wouldn't be the starter.

Still, can you blame McCarthy for wanting to see the two of them compete before making a final decision on who the starter was going to be in 2008?

95% of the experts and players had NO prob with it...so way should fans? ENTERTAINMENT; listen to the Herd
No way dude. They were poking at the football Gods with that long pass earlier in the 4th and missed. The late TD was too much IMO. Run up the gut if you're up 3 scores with 2 minutes to go. Straight ahead power football to eat the clock and get the game over.

I'm not saying I wouldnt be throwing if I was them, I'm saying ask the Pats how that worked out.

But Rodgers leads the league in frumpy expressions and negative body language on the sideline, which makes him, like Josh Allen, a unique double threat.

Instead of the "Supporters" and the "Haters"

I am going to coin my own groups just like the abortion issue people did.

I am now going to label the "Haters" as "Pro-Packer" and "Supporters" as the "Anti-Packer"

It feels so much better to be on the positive side of the debate. My life is improving drastically.

Why do you all hate the Packers so much?

                    • This I want to know; why did BF fold so often for GB in the playoffs? Didn't GB have enough talent post super bowls?

BF was awesome last week vs dem Boys and this is from a huge BF basher. And no doubt; this season by BF was just as good as 95-97 in GB.

But why? Dome? Better weapons on O? Fire & desire to stick it to god knows who? In 96 & somewhat 97 Packers had a great defense - just like Vikes do now. I think without a great D even a gunslinger like BF wouldn't go far.

I'm amazed and pretty angry at the crappy Packer playoffs results since the Super Bowls and now BF looks better than ever which he hasn't been since 97. 2007 was almost in this league but falls way short due to fall at Lambeau to G-men (shouldn't happen). Again, why so?

Personally, I think it has to be a renewed commitment on Brett's part. I think he got complacent in GB. He had it made and could throw all the interceptions he want knowing that he would still be excused by the fans and in the case of Sherman, the coach.

Even if you look at the early to mid 2000's when Green was a beast in the backfield, Favre still was fairly careless with the ball. Just my take, but either the Jet season was a wake-up to him, or he has a burning desire to prove everyone wrong. I'm leaning more towards the first option, just because I think the second option would have him trying too hard and forcing balls.

                        • I always thought he just hated the cold after a while. The whole beef with MM was just a front to mask his real desire to get away from playing outside so much. It takes more out of ya, especially when you've had several fractures. Heck, I've only broken my finger and that gets achy every time the temps drop here.

Why wouldn't he just admit he hated the cold? Because the iron man doesn't want to look like a wuss.

So he went to the jets then and played in teh cold. Why does he seem better now then he was for us? Something happened between 2007-present. He had a wakeup call. He never really ahd a coach in GB, since Holgrem that could control him. He still doesn't. Favre needed to learn to control himself, but in GB he never had a reason. He could always point at something else. In 2007 he took a lot of blame for the playoff loss, and may have been why he retired. He was playing pretty damn well in 2008 but then had a throwing arm injury.

Thing is, he finally got himself under control. At this point it's too late for nay coach to try adn control brett, but somethign between his last two seasons made him realize he only needed to control himself. He even doubted if he could last the full year this year. He believes in himself, and as good as Green was he was not an Adrian Peterson.

Favre needed holgrem for a few more seasons, and intead he got coaches in the 2000's that were too afraid to challenge him. At least chilly this year had the balls to say something to prevent him from getting hurt, even if it was a bone headed coaching. Sherman never did shit to Brett, and MM was sort of TT in the "Brett's great, he does his thing" bandwagon in trying to move on to AR.

                            • "You may hate Favre now, but you'll miss him"

                              by Jason Whitlock

Brett Favre reminds me of Muhammad Ali -- polarizing among fans, beloved and needed by the media, a legend who will be celebrated most fondly long after he leaves the game.

Everyone should be rooting for Favre in the NFC title game (6 p.m. ET, FOX) this weekend . His potential journey to the Super Bowl at age 40 should be a heartwarming story. Unfortunately, we, the media, ruined the Favre story. We focused so much attention on his retirements and un-retirements that football fans outside of Minnesota can't stand him and fear what would happen to Super Bowl coverage if Favre is in the game.

Will John Madden come out of retirement to call the game and remind viewers that Favre is a carefree, gunslinging kid just having fun out there?

The truth is a terrific defense, but no one wants to hear the truth about Favre anymore.

Has heavyweight boxing been the same since Holmes pounded Ali into retirement? No. Football fans don't know it yet, but they're going to miss Brett Favre. He's quit and come back like a boxer. He's a narcissistic self-promoter like Ali. And Favre floats like a butterfly and stings like a bee.

Ali performed before the 24-hour news cycle. If ESPN existed during Ali's time, The Greatest might have been the most hated man on the planet.

                              • Whitlock is an idiot. Like the only Favre fans are Viking fans. Right. Sure, a lot of people are just a little sick of him, but a hell of a lot of people love watching him play, and recognize that they are witnessing something totally unprecedented. I'm on record as being down on Favre for the way he left Green Bay, realizing that Green Bay had a part in rejecting him as well. I think they made the right choice.

Despite the bad ending with Green Bay, I still enjoyed watching Favre play last year - his performances against Tennessee and New England were amazing. If he were playing for any team other than the Vikings, Bears, or Cowboys, I'd be cheering him on - I could push the baggage aside, knowing there are plenty of prima donnas in sports far worse than Favre. But rooting for the Vikings is a bridge too far - for me. Favre is clearly out to prove something, and that - plus being on a very good team - has given him an MVP level season. Read the post by Howard - I think it's pretty close to the mark. So, Good Luck to Favre, but I hope the Vikings get obliterated.
