Speaking of, I am very NOT excited to be going back to a 3 - 4. Ugh. No more linemen trying to penetrate to get a TFL on runs. Just big fat guys trying to hold the line and getting double-teamed. And guys like Lukas Van Ness and Micah Parsons dropping into coverage so they can get burned by a much-quicker running back or tight end. I really really do not like the 3-4 defense. Man, it's hard to get excited about this offseason, much less next season.
We don't know what he's going to run. When he was DC at Philly he ran a 4-3. As HC at Arizona he ran a 3-4. I suspect he'll run whatever he feels utilizes Parsons' talents the best. He spent several years working under Mike Zimmer and Matt Eberflus, both of whom ran 4-3 schemes.

The packers have "tweeners" all over the place. Parsons is small for edge, quay would be small for edge, Van Mess and Gary are big for Edge, Brooks and wooden had been small for interior but put on weight to be average, but were really big for edge coming out. If he can figure out how to meld all the athleticism into football we're in business though. I'd sign Quay if I could get him for a reasonable price and make him become Parsons understudy. His talent when moving forward is undeniable but his instincts in coverage rival Isaih Simmons. I'd use Van Mess inside and out, same with Gary. I'd probably hope that Brinson and/or Stackhouse can 2 gap as NT and run some form of hybrid 3-4 because thats the type of players I think we have.

Bullard has proven to be a really good slot who is a good tackler. Not sure he is the guy to build your defense around.

Zimmer was good; do you consider Matt Eberflus a stellar DC ?

He was excellent as Indy. Had several top 10 defenses. Didn't get it done at Dallas last year. Of course, they traded away his only pass rusher just as the season was about to start.

The Packers are hiring Bobby Babich as their defensive pass game coordinator/secondary, per source.

Babich had been with the Bills since 2017, serving as defensive coordinator the past two seasons. A key hire to new DC Jonathan Gannon’s staff.

Take a look at the guys JIMMY coached at UW and go back and hear these guys who made it talk about his impact. Gutebag loves young players. Jimmy Develops young players.

instead, the Flower reportedly heard the Harbaughs were interested (who fucking cares and if that is the reason is seems to cowardly) and after letting him leave the building without an offer he closed the deal on the same Day Jimmy became available.

Now , all over facebook we have AI bots and Cheerleaders on Packer facebook sites doing their best to circle talk reasons why it was so urgent to hire this guy....when equally or more qualifed experience was still available (Jim Schwartz anybody) .....(YES< I would have loved to see him punch Ben Johnson in the face after a game) and a safe hire in Rasheem Morris. And a guy who has spent his entire life overachieving and then coaching his players to overachieve.
                      .
So now we have to back off, and look at stretch reasons why Richie Gannon was such a good hire.

Today, and tomorrow were supposed to be among the greatest day in Wisconsin. Remember this hire for years when we get bounced playoff time be superior coaching staffs.

Don't worry. When we fire MiLF in 2 years Jimmy should be ripe for a HC job. The universe is just testing your patience.

In a Bobblehead dream world they get Quay back on a reasonable deal and Gannon runs a 3-4 with Parsons and Quay flying all over the place downhill disrupting the living shit out of offenses. Run blitz fits, coming off the edge, move van mess inside at times. The skillsets are there. Just please don't ask Quay to cover a zone.

Absolutely fantastic article. Read it closely and understand why we perceive our defenses soft. It also plays into why we eat passive defenses alive.
