I wondered if this thread would be resurrected as the news has recently broken that it seems ol' Brent was pestering the Gubnuh of Mississippi to connect him with someone who could get him funds to help build a volleyball facility at the college (I think it's a college) where his daughter plays volleyball. The Gubnuh directed him to - wait for it - the a department in charge of welfare funds. Brent secured some welfare funds to get the volleyball facility built for his daughter. He apparently was worried about the media finding out - and they did.
I don't want this to be a political thing about welfare funds and how they were used. I just wanted to note that ol' Brent continues to struggle in retirement. I think he was a way more messed-up guy than his aw shucks demeanor from years ago suggested, and even more messed-up than even the adult man-child sending dick pics to a hot reporter who looked kinda like his wife.
Ouch, Brent.

The fact that he was worried about the press finding out makes it sound like he knew what he was doing wasn't on the up and up. Rodgers hosted Jeopardy, Favre may be in jeopardy.

What Favre did was incredibly wrong. Immoral. But if the government people who approved the grant knew what Favre was going to do with the money, did he actually do anything illegal by taking it? Not sure what the law in Mississippi says, but I think it might be the people working for the government who might be legally culpable.

Don't sweat it Fritz. I think the one thing EVERYONE on every side of the isle agrees on is that the government loves to waste money.
On another note, the only real reason to bump this thread was for the pictures of Drew.

Not surprised. That guy used to take an incredible number of hits in the 1st half of his Packers career. Then their OL's got better, and he didn't take as many hits last part of his Packer career. Took some rough hits at end of his career as his mobility was gone.

No surprise the way he got his bell rung.
Favre at his peak was one of the most fun players I've ever watched.

Binge drinking has a lot of impact too.
I moved your post to this thread since it’s the historical Favre one.

So, Favre is called to testify before a congressional committee because of his involvement in the massive misuse of welfare money by state officials, and the newspaper this morning has four articles about his playing days, his injuries and Parkinson's. Nothing about his actual testimony or his involvement in the scheme.
Great move on his part to divert attention away from his involvement.

That was my thought as well. Also, a good way to make a situation about him.

He still was able to work in that he thought welfare money for volleyball arens by way of never-given speeches was okay because the elected officials and lawyers told him so. It does track with "I really want everyone to approve of me" Brett.
Honestly, I wouldn't have watched the admission part of the statement or even known about the hearing had it not come in the form of a Brett has Parkinson's article, so some degree of Streisand Effect. (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Streisand_effect)

yep. i doubt at any point he was asked about his health
but he decided to throw it out there to get the sympathy vote even though it had nothing to do with the hearing
what a complete POS

The only thing Favre is guilty of is petitioning his government for funding to build a new arena at USM.
Slimy on many levels given the boat loads of money Deanna and him have, but whippy shit.
He’s still one of the best QB’s to ever play the game, he’s ours and Wisconsin and millions of Packer fans love every bone in his body.

From what I've read, this might be the more accurate statement.

Who's this Brent guy you all are speaking of? Is he related to that Jets QB that everyone still talks about?

If you are referring to MG confronting him at that signing, I agree. BF seemed legit friendly and then bewildered.

Falling down for Strahan was a dumb thing to do. Weird thing is how Brett was impacted the least by it.
Strahan caught a lot of flak about it - what was he supposed to do, not sack the QB?
Gastineau had a right to be mad about it IMO, but TJ Watt has a share of that sack record now anyway so he should just let it go. Sucked for him from an autograph/appearance $ and HOF candidacy, but I wouldn't go out of my way to sink to Brett's level.

In 1968 Denny McLain of the Detroit Tigers served up a meatball so an aging Mickey Mantle could surpass Jimmie Foxx on the all-time HR kings list. Nobody seemed offended on Foxx's behalf (he'd died the year before).
It's a sign of respect from one great player to another. If Mark Gastineau's self-esteem is so much based on that sack record, then he's in a bad place.

Saw a cameo of Favre - where people pay him to say happy birthday, get well, etc.
Anyways / he talked about his Parkinson’s and its impact on him. You can tell he’s facing the reality that every day will be worse than the last.
He also said he collects tshirts from all the stadiums he’s played at… and he doesn’t have one from Lambeau.
How weird is that?

That sums it up for me. If it was my friend I would have probably did the same. I remember most of the game Favre went out of his way to deny the sack early. Strahan went hard and that excellent OL kept stopping him.
I don’t think I have seen Brett really deny he let him have it. Just cracks that hick smile. Maybe he also wanted to be the QB on the record. Pairs well with the INTs record.

If I remember correctly, the OL was close to some record for fewest sacks allowed or maybe some contract bonus. The Favre "sack" cost the OL the record and/or some cash.
